Latvijas Universitātes Muzeja virtuālā izstāde „Astronomiskajam tornim – 150” veltīta labi pamanāmai Latvijas Universitātes galvenās ēkas iezīmei – Astronomiskajam tornim uz tās jumta. 2019. gadā ēkai un arī tornim apritēja 150 gadi. Rīgas Politehnikuma laikos te strādājuši dažādi ārzemju profesori, kas veica astronomiskus novērojumus un mācīja studentus. Nodibinoties Latvijas Universitātei, tornis kļuva par Astronomiskās observatorijas sastāvdaļu. Kopš 1986. gada te notiek regulāri debess spīdekļu demonstrējumi, skatītas komētas, Saules aptumsumi un citas samērā retas astronomiskas parādības. Some Previously Relevant Aspects of Academic Life: Venia Legendi and the Status of a Private Docent in the World and in Riga Polytechnicum (1862–1896)

The study examines the status of a private docent, the academic position which was introduced across the world in the 18th century and which also existed in Latvia from the second half of the 19th century until the end of World War II. The status of the private docent as it used to be understood in Latvia is compared with other countries, mainly considering German-type universities. The University of Latvia has 19th-century historical witness regarding the daily life of students during studies - the historical student solitary confinement cell. The origins of the student solitary confinement cell are found in medieval Germany, when universities were entitled to turn students into cells for the misdeeds during the studies. The idea was realized in the 19th century, which coincided with the time when German academic influence spread in the Baltics. During the occupation of the USSR, this history phenomenon was forgotten or distorted, but it is now rehabilitated.
