Characterization of thermoelectric and thermogravimetric properties of conductive PEDOT:PSS films blended with SWCNTs and PVA

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) was blended with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) filler to form composites with thermoelectric properties. Studied samples were obtained by drop coating and solution casting methods. Thermoelectric measurements of PEDOT:PSS demonstrated that the addition of 5 wt. % SWCNTs increased the Seebeck coefficient value from 8.0 μV/K to 23.6 μV/K, while in the case of PEDOT:PSS/PVA blended with 5 wt. % SWCNT Seebeck coefficient value of 20.3 μV/K was achieved. Thermogravimetric analysis showed slight SWCNT effect on thermal stability of the investigated systems.

Polymeric hydrogels are increasingly considered as scaffolds for tissue engineering due to their extraordinary resemblance with the extracellular matrix (ECM) of many tissues. As cell adhesion is a key factor in regulating important cell functions, hydrogel scaffolds are often functionalized or loaded with a variety of bioactive molecules that can promote adhesion. The structure of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogels formed as a result of freeze/thaw treatments of aqueous solutions of the polymer (11 wt % PVA) in the freshly prepared state is analyzed through the combined use of small (SANS) and ultrasmall (USANS) angle neutron scattering techniques. The structure of these hydrogels may be described in terms of polymer rich regions, with dimensions of the order of 1-2 microm, dispersed in a water rich phase, forming two bicontinuous phases. Spectrophotometric determination of vitamin C using the copper(II)-nioxime-ascorbic acid system following stabilization in a propylene glycol medium

Abstract A spectrophotometric method for the determination of Vitamin C is proposed. The procedure is based on formation and stabilization of the ternary complex Cu(II)-nioxime-ascorbic acid in 80% ( v v ) propylene glycol-water medium. The method has a high degree of tolerance for the determination of ascorbic acid in the presence of other active substances or excipients likely to be present along with vitamin C in pharmaceutical formulations. The suggested method has proved to be rapid and precise and has been successfully applied to different commercial pharmaceutical preparations of vitamin C. Precision, measured on the relative standard deviation, did not exceed 0.73%.

Influence of aroma compounds on the mechanical properties of pectin gels.

A detailed study of the rheological behavior of pectin gels, in the presence of aroma compounds in food concentration is reported. In high methoxylated pectin (HMP) gels, it has not yet been shown if aroma compounds can be responsible for modifications in rheology. Two rheological techniques were used to measure the impact of aroma substances on rheological properties of HMP-based systems. Electrical properties of γ-crosslinked hydrogels incorporating organic conducting polymers

Abstract Hydrogel composites containing nanoparticles of the protonated emeraldine form of polyaniline (PANI-PE) have been synthesised by γ-irradiation, using either polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) or polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as steric stabilisers. Swelling behaviour of both hydrogels is reported, together with an electrical characterisation of composites, before and after gel network formation, performed by cyclic voltammetry and impedance spectroscopy. Similarities and differences between the two composite systems are discussed.

Localized surface plasmon resonance sensor based on Ag-PVA nanocomposite thin films

In this work we demonstrate the use of nanocomposite thin films of poly(vinyl alcohol) with embedded silver NPs for chemosensing purposes. Silver NPs are in situ synthesized inside polyvinyl alcohol during the bake step of the formation of a nanocomposite thin film. The polymer in the nanocomposite provides an appropriate chemical and electromagnetic environment for metal NPs in order to interact with and hence detect the chemical species. In order to investigate the influences of different end-groups on oligomer miscibility with other substances, oligo(propylene glycol)s bearing OH groups (OPG-OH) studied in the previous paper2, were acetylated at both ends (OPG-AC). The limits of miscibility of OPG-AC with oligo(dimethylsiloxane) (ODMS) were measured turbidimetrically. A simple and reliable method for the determination of the critical points from turbidity data is presented. Preliminary magnetic resonance relaxometric analysis of Fricke gel dosimeters produced with polyvinyl alcohol and glutaraldehyde

This work describes the preliminary analysis of Fricke gels dosimeters characterized by a new formulation making use of a matrix of polyvinyl alcohol cross-linked by adding glutaraldehyde and analyzed by means of nuclear magnetic resonance relaxometry. In previous optical studies, these gels have shown promising dosimetric features in terms of photon sensitivity and low diffusion of ferric ions produced after irradiation.
