Sea level and climate forcing of the Sr isotope composition of late Miocene Mediterranean marine basins
2014
Sr isotope records from marginal marine basins track the mixing between seawater and local continental runoff, potentially recording the effects of sea level, tectonic, and climate forcing in marine fossils and sediments. Our 110 new Sr-87/Sr-86 analyses on oyster and foraminifera samples from six late Miocene stratigraphic sections in southern Turkey, Crete, and Sicily show that Sr-87/Sr-86 fell below global seawater values in the basins several million years before the Messinian Salinity Crisis, coinciding with tectonic uplift and basin shallowing. 87Sr/86Sr from more centrally located basins (away from the Mediterranean coast) drop below global seawater values only during the Messinian S…
Morphological observations on the co-occurring geophytes Isoetes duriei Bory (Lycophyta, Isoetaceae) and Romulea columnae Sebast. et Mauri (Anthophyt…
2003
Some preliminary observations on the morphoplogy and leaf anatomy of two geophytes, Isoetes duriei and Romulea columnae, co-occurring in a Mediterranean temporary pond, have been reported. The species examined possess characters favourable to the survival of both flooded and arid conditions. The adaptive traits to flooding appear plastic in R. columnae, while I. duriei is “structurally” an aquatic plant. Evolutionary and ecological aspects are briefly discussed.
Zooplankton dynamics and conservation problems of a Mediterranean temporary pond

First record of the tadpole shrimp triops cancriformis (Branchiopoda, Notostraca) in Cyprus
2014
The presence of the large branchiopod Triops cancriformis (Bosc, 1801-1802) in Cyprus is reported for the first time. Triops cancriformis individuals were observed in the large temporary wetland of Paralimni Lake (Famagusta District, Cyprus) during the wet periods of 2013 and 2014. This finding extends the current knowledge of the species distribution in the eastern Mediterranean area, and stresses the ecological and conservation value of the unique habitat of Paralimni Lake. In addition, it highlights the need for carrying on further studies on the fauna of temporary pond habitats in Cyprus, and for better conservation management strategies for such EU priority habitats.
Effects of environmental and spatial variables on lotic ostracod metacommunity structure in the Iberian Peninsula
2015
The heterogeneous distribution of aquatic species in lotic environments has been studied little in terms of metacommunity theory. Previous empirical tests have found significant spatial and environmental effects in pond and lake communities, but this has not yet been clearly established for stream networks. We conducted a multi-season survey of mountain streams in the Iberian Peninsula. We recorded GIS and in situ environmental data and collected biological samples to determine ostracods and macroinvertebrates and identified 41 ostracod species, the most common belonging to genera Herpetocypris , Sarscypridopsis , and Ilyocypris . A generalized linear model analysis showed that thermal rang…
Anti-ADAMTS13 autoantibody profiling in patients with immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.
2021
Anti-A Disintegrin and Metalloproteinase with a ThromboSpondin type 1 motif, member 13 (ADAMTS13) autoantibodies cause a severe ADAMTS13 deficiency in immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (iTTP). ADAMTS13 consists of a metalloprotease (M), a disintegrin-like (D) domain, 8 thrombospondin type 1 repeats (T1-T8), a cysteine-rich (C), a spacer (S), and 2 CUB domains (CUB1-2). We recently developed a high-throughput epitope mapping assay based on small, nonoverlapping ADAMTS13 fragments (M, DT, CS, T2-T5, T6-T8, CUB1-2). With this assay, we performed a comprehensive epitope mapping using 131 acute-phase samples and for the first time a large group of remission samples (n = 50). Ne…
Use of sulesomab in the diagnosis of brucellar spondylitis.
2004
ABSTRACT Twenty-two patients with suspected brucellar spondylitis were investigated to evaluate the possible diagnostic role of Sulesomab, a 99m Tc-antigranulocyte antibody Fab' fragment. Sensitivity and specificity were compared with those of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Skeletal involvement was detected by MRI in 11 cases, while leukoscintigraphy indicated normal vertebral uptake in seven of these patients, increased uptake in two patients, and decreased uptake in two patients. Leukoscintigraphy of the 11 patients negative by MRI demonstrated increased uptake in two cases. The sensitivity and specificity of leukoscintigraphy were 27.2% and 81.1%, respectively. Based on these results,…
DEFINITION ET ETUDE DES PERFORMANCES D'UN DETECTEUR DE STRUCTURES CURVILINEAIRES. APPLICATION A LA STEREOSCOPIE ET LA DETECTION D'OBJETS FILAIRES
2008
The work presented in this paper falls under the domain of matching. In this context, we try to show the interest of using the curvilinear regions in order to enhance the global performance of various matching applications. A brand new detector for curvilinear regions is introduced (CRD), along with the specific curvilinear regions descriptor (CRD) required. Performance evaluations were done in two parts: First, we evaluated and compared the segmentations performances of our detector, in particular on a retina vessels segmentation application. And second, we estimated the matching performances using K. Mykolajczyk toolkit. This methodology helps obtaining intrinsic performances and comparin…
Polarization stereoscopic imaging prototype
2011
The polarization of light was introduced last ten years ago in the field of imaging system is a physical phenomenon that can be controlled for the purposes of the vision system. As that found in the human eyes, in general the imaging sensors are not under construction which is sensitive to the polarization of light. These properties can be measured by adding optical components on a conventional camera. The purpose of this thesis is to develop an imaging system that is sensitive both to the stereoscopic and to the state of polarization. As well as the visual system on a various of insects in nature such as bees, that are have capability to move in space by extracted relevant information from…
