THE ROLE OF CONCEPTUAL FOUNDATIONS OF QUANTUM THEORY IN THE DIALOGUE BETWEEN SCIENCE AND RELIGION

A recent development in the understanding of conceptual foundations of quantum theory is discussed, giving particular attention to the analysis of the so called Schroedinger’s cat paradox. The solution of this problem in the frameworks of Everett-Wheeler many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics is considered, as well as the philosophical and theological consequences following from this interpretation. The recommendations are given, concerning the use of questions related with conceptual foundations of quantum theory in the education when introducing students and senior class pupils in problems of the dialogue between science and religion. Evaluation of the temperature effect on the fractional linear viscoelastic model for an epoxy resin

The paper deals with the evolution of the parameters of a fractional model for different values of temperature. An experimental campaign has been performed on epoxy resin at different levels of temperature. It is shown that epoxy resin is very sensitive to the temperature.

This year is the centenary of the birth of Ettore Majorana, one of the major Italian physicists of all times. In this note we briefly sketch a few biographical details about Ettore Majorana and introduce and discuss the main points of Majorana's 10th article. In his article Majorana explicitly considers quantum mechanics as an irreducible statistical theory because the theory is not able to describe the time evolution of a single particle or atom in a precise environment at a deterministic level. This paper shows the important role of one of the most common instruments, the pendulum, in the construction of the newtonian paradigm. From the analysis of some interesting applications carried out by the greatest scientists of that time, we conclude that the appropriate use of the pendulum in the classroom can be an easy way to introduce historical and epistemological evolution of basic physical concepts.

Fluted Logic with Counting

The fluted fragment is a fragment of first-order logic in which the order of quantification of variables coincides with the order in which those variables appear as arguments of predicates. It is known that the fluted fragment possesses the finite model property. In this paper, we extend the fluted fragment by the addition of counting quantifiers. We show that the resulting logic retains the finite model property, and that the satisfiability problem for its (m+1)-variable sub-fragment is in m-NExpTime for all positive m.
