La placa grabada de Balma Guilanyà (Prepirineo de Lleida) y las manifestaciones artísticas del Mesolítico de la Península Ibérica

2011

A carved rock with geometric and/or abstract signs discovered at the Balma Guilanyà site has made possible the analysis of the artistic patterns developed after the end of the Upper Palaeolithic in the Iberian Mediterranean region. Archaeo-stratigraphic, chronometric and chrono-cultural attributes link this finding to the Mesolithic, probably during the tenth millennium cal BP. Graphic analysis and the comparison with different kinds of representations from this same area allows the evaluation of the problematic that surrounds the characterization of West Mediterranean Mesolithic art.

A database for historical pigments through handheld instrumentation

2020

Portable instrumentation is largely used in archaeometry for in-field measurements at museums and archaeological sites. The historic evolution of pigments is closely related to the technology developments in past cultures and provides relevant clues regarding their knowledge advancement. Here, a systematic study of 26 historical powdered pigments was carried out through a combined handheld instrumentation for X-ray Fluorescence. Chemical identification was carried out through a set of instrumentation produced by different manufacturers. Their performances are compared on the same set of samples to identify best practices for the study of historical pigments. A database of organic and inorga…

Mesure de la performance des manipulateurs mobiles

2018

An advanced approach to flexible manufacturing is to move robotic manipulators, using anAGV or mobile robot, called mobile manipulators, between workstations. The use ofmobile manipulators can be advantageous in a number of situations. It can result in costsavings when a single mobile manipulator can be used to replace several stationarymanipulators. However, mobile manipulators are “a relatively young discipline withinrobotics.” An extensive literature review of the research leading to commercial mobilemanipulators and mobile robots was performed. The performance measurement of mobilemanipulators, including a mobile base with an onboard robot arm, is virtually non-existent.However, mobile …

Improving drinking water treatment without tariff impact: the Spanish case study

2017

Abstract Water is essential for our lives and activities. Everyone can drink good quality water, the question is whether they have access to it in the first place. Water quality and its treatment depend on the water source. This treatment has costs that users have to pay in the water tariff. It is very important to establish a water tariff that permits the best water treatment and has a low impact on the users. Cost functions are a useful tool to predict costs before an implementation or improvement. This article, using three easy steps (analysis, obtaining costs and modification of the water tariff) proposes improving water purification treatment using cost functions in order to find the b…

Hybrid processes coupling photocatalysis and membranes for degradation of organic pollutants in water

2002

Abstract Tests of degradation in a photocatalytic membrane system with the lamp immersed in the suspension inside the photoreactor have been carried out by using polycrystalline TiO2 (Degussa P25) as catalyst and humic acids, organic dyes, 4-nitrophenol as pollutants. The influence of the type of nanofiltration membrane, initial concentration of pollutant and pH on the photodegradation rate was investigated in discontinuous and continuous configurations. Two membranes were tested, i.e. NF-PES-010 (Celgard, Germany) of polyethersulphone and NTR-7410 (Nitto-Denko, Japan) of sulphonated polyethersulphone. The last one was chosen for all of the photoreactivity experiments because permeability a…

A portable multisensor system to assess cardiorespiratory interactions through photoplethysmography

2022

Nowadays, the ever-growing interest to health and quality of life of individuals and the advancements in electronic devices technology are pushing the development of portable and wearable biomedical devices able to pursue a minimally invasive monitoring of physiological parameters in daily-life conditions. Such devices can now carry out a real-time assessment of the subjects’ overall health status and possibly even detect ongoing diseases. In this context, we have designed and implemented a multisensor portable system able to perform synchronous real-time acquisitions of electrocardiographic (ECG), photoplethysmographic (PPG) and airflow breathing signals. We investigated cardiorespiratory …

Low-invasive multisensor real-time acquisition system for the assessment of cardiorespiratory and skin conductance parameters

2022

In recent years, the attention to the health and comfort of the individual, together with the electronic miniaturization progress, have led to an increased interest in the development of biomedical devices that are able to acquire a multitude of biomedical signals. Such devices should be wearable and comfortable during daily use, to be thus suitable for continuously monitoring psychophysical health states. In this context, we have designed and realized a portable biomedical device capable of real-time acquisition of electrocardiographic (ECG), photoplethysmographic (PPG), breathing and galvanic skin response (GSR) signals, for a noninvasive monitoring of multiple physiological parameters. T…

Water Fluxes in Polymeric Membranes for Desalination via Membrane Distillation

2010

Membrane distillation is an emerging technique for seawater desalination. Hydrophobic polymeric membranes are used to separate the solute‐free water vapour from the hot solution. Vapour fluxes of commercial polymeric membranes were measured in various conditions, i.e. natural and forced convection and vacuum. Vapour fluxes were also predicted with models and compared with experimentals. Higher fluxes were recorded in vacuum conditions.
