Clinical profiles and quality of care of subjects with type 2 diabetes according to their cardiovascular risk: an observational, retrospective study
2021
Abstract Background The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) recently defined cardiovascular risk classes for subjects with diabetes. Aim of this study was to explore the distribution of subjects with type 2 diabetes (T2D) by cardiovascular risk groups according to the ESC classification and to describe the quality indicators of care, with particular regard to cardiovascular risk factors. Methods The study is based on data extracted from electronic medical records of patients treated at the 258 Italian diabetes centers participating in the AMD Annals initiative. Patients with T2D were stratified by cardiovascular risk. General descriptive indicators, measures of intermediate outcomes, inten…
Impact of combinations of single-nucleotide polymorphisms of anthracycline transporter genes upon the efficacy and toxicity of induction chemotherapy…
2020
Anthracycline uptake could be affected by influx and efflux transporters in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Combinations of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of wild-type genotype of influx transporters (SLC22A16, SLCO1B1) and homozygous variant genotypes of ABC polymorphisms (ABCB1, ABCC1, ABCC2, ABCG2) were evaluated in 225 adult de novo AML patients. No differences in complete remission were reported, but higher induction death was observed with combinations of SLCO1B1 rs4149056 and ABCB1 (triple variant haplotype, rs1128503), previously associated with ABCB1 and SLCO1B1 SNPs. Several combinations of SLCO1B1 and SLC22A16 with ABCB1 SNPs were associated with higher toxicities, includin…
Unravelling the heterogeneity of soft tissue and bone sarcoma patients’ health-related quality of life: a systematic literature review with focus on …
2020
Contains fulltext : 229532.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) Patients with sarcoma experience many physical and psychological symptoms, adversely affecting their health-related quality of life (HRQoL). HRQoL assessment is challenging due to the diversity of the disease. This review aims to unravel the heterogeneity of HRQoL of patients with sarcoma with regard to tumour location and to summarise the used measures in research. English-language literature from four databases published between January 2000 and April 2019 was reviewed. Studies that described adult sarcoma HRQoL outcomes were included and classified according to primary sarcoma location. Eighty-seven articles met the incl…
Extraction of Impacted Maxillary Canines With Simultaneous Implant Placement
2005
When impacted maxillary canines are not amenable to orthodontic traction or reimplantation, extraction is the only option available, followed by implant placement. If apical and ridge crest bone remains after the extraction of the maxillary canines, an immediate implant can be placed. The implant is anchored bicortically with good primary fixation. This article presents a new surgical technique that allows an immediate implant placement after the extraction of the maxillary canines. The full circumference of the implant is left without bone coverage, except for the apical and coronal area. The implant screw threads and the bone defect are covered with the bone shavings collected by the filt…
Vertical Mandibular Alveolar Bone Distraction and Dental Implant Placement: A Case Report
2006
Abstract Extensive bone defects complicate the adequate placement of dental implants and the required angulation. In such cases, alveolar-ridge augmentation techniques such as guided bone regeneration, particulate or block grafting, and alveolar bone distraction are needed. The present study describes a case in which a large vertical bone defect in the anterior mandibular zone was corrected via vertical alveolar bone distraction. Six dental implants were posteriorly placed for implant-supported restoration of the mandible, with early implant loading. The clinical and radiologic control showed good implant and soft tissue conditions 12 months later.

Association study of suicidal behavior and affective disorders with a genetic polymorphism in ABCG1, a positional candidate on chromosome 21q22.3
2000
The gene that codes for the ABC transporter ABCG1 is located in a chromosomal susceptibility region (21q22.3) for affective disorders. Genetic variations in ABCG1 have been associated with affective disorders in Japanese males. In this study, we investigated the distribution of a G2457A polymorphism in patients with affective disorders, suicide attempters with various psychiatric diagnoses and healthy subjects. We initially found a trend towards a modest association with affective disorders in males (p = 0.046 for allele frequencies and p = 0.046 for AA versus GG). We conducted a replication study with independent patients and controls. There was no association with affective disorders, eit…
Systematic review of the health-related quality of life issues facing adolescents and young adults with cancer
2017
Contains fulltext : 174665.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) PURPOSE: For adolescents and young adults (AYAs), the impact of a cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment is likely to be distinct from other age groups given the unique and complex psychosocial challenges of this developmental phase. In this review of the literature, we report the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) issues experienced by AYAs diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment. METHODS: MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsychINFO and the Cochrane Library Databases were searched for publications reporting HRQoL of AYAs. Issues generated from interviews with AYAs or from responses to patient reported outcome measures…
Unusual high dose of tacrolimus in liver transplant patient, a case report.
2012
Case We describe the case of a liver transplant patient who had great difficulty in reaching the desired trough blood levels despite the use of high dose tacrolimus. The patient was homozygous for the CYP3A5*3 allele. However, the respective donor carried the wild-type CYP3A5*1/*1 genotype. Regarding ABCB1 SNPs at exon 21 and 26, the patient showed the 2677GT and 3435CC genotypes. For the corresponding donor we observed the 2677GG and 3435CC wild-type genotypes. One, two and three weeks after transplantation the patient received daily 0.219, 0.287 and 0.273 mg/kg of tacrolimus, respectively. However, the corresponding tacrolimus trough blood levels were of 4.6, 5.6 and 6.1 ng/mL. The tacrol…
Association of SNPs with the efficacy and safety of immunosuppressant therapy after heart transplantation.
2015
Aim: Studying the possible influence of SNPs on efficacy and safety of calcineurin inhibitors upon heart transplantation. Materials & methods: In 60 heart transplant patients treated with tacrolimus or cyclosporine, we studied a panel of 36 SNPs correlated with a series of clinical parameters during the first post-transplantation year. Results: The presence of serious infections was correlated to ABCB1 rs1128503 (p = 0.012), CC genotype reduced the probability of infections being also associated with lower blood cyclosporine concentrations. Lower renal function levels were found in patients with rs9282564 AG (p = 0.003), related to higher blood cyclosporine blood levels. A tendency tow…
