Effect of training on aerobic capacity of female athletes differing in muscle fibre composition
1983
Abstract The effects of endurance training were studied in two groups of female cross‐country skiers who differed in muscle fibre composition. The ST‐group (n = 10) had 56–76% slow twitch (ST) muscle fibres and the FT‐group (n= 10) 40–55% ST fibres in the m. vastus lateralis. During a four‐month period, the subjects trained on the average 81 km per week. The intensive training (heart rate 0–15 beats per min below maximum) averaged 8.5 km per week. The differences in training between the two groups were not significant. The ST‐group significantly increased their cycling maximum oxygen uptake (C max, 4.6%, P <0.01) and the anaerobic threshold (AT, 2.8%, P <0.01) during the training period whe…
Intellectual capital and business model: a systematic literature review to explore their linkages
2020
PurposeIn the last decades, business and management scholars have given great attention to intellectual capital (IC), which could seem a mature topic, having arrived at its third wave of studies. However, its intersections with the business model (BM) remain an under-investigated topic, and the authors wanted to investigate two research questions (RQs): how the literature addressing IC and BM has evolved so far in the business and management domains? What are possible future research trends of business and management studies regarding IC and BM?Design/methodology/approachThis study answers these questions through a systematic literature review (SLR) of 74 peer-reviewed articles in the area …
Georeferenced cartography dataset of the La Fossa crater fumarolic field at Vulcano Island (Aeolian Archipelago, Italy): conversion and comparison of…
2011
The present study illustrates the procedures applied for the coordinate system conversion of the historical fumarole positions at La Fossa crater, to allow their comparison with newly acquired global positioning system (GPS) data. Due to the absence of ground control points in the field and on both the old Gauss Boaga and the new UTM WGS 1984 maps, we had to model the transformation errors between the two systems using differential GPS techniques. Once corrected, the maps show a residual Easting shifting, due to erroneous georeferencing of the original base maps; this is corrected by morphological comparative methods. The good correspondence between the corrected positions of the historical…
Risks and Crises in Virtual Publicity — Can Publicity Crises Be Prevented by Public Relations in the Cyberspace?
2008
The absolute amount of Internet users is growing dramatically, and the cyberspace has become the privileged domain of counter-publicity. Weblogs have already consolidated their position as a communication channel alongside the traditional established media. Weblogs and the blogosphere also offer a new arena for corporate communication. However, the standing of the blogosphere is different compared to the traditional information exchange relationship between corporate communication and the traditional mass media. This chapter is about the new communication sphere, which implies revision of the traditional schemes of public relations and new ethical guidelines for communication.
An overview about fashion retailing sector: UK versus Spain
2012
Within the international context, fashion retailers have suffered the most in the economic downturn in the last years. Nevertheless, the historically high-margin fashion sectors composite net profit margin was still the highest of all the product groups. Based on the importance of fashion retail sector for the international economy in general, this paper examines the international retailing situation showing sales data between most important retailers around the world in general and Europe in particular. Specifically, this paper offers an overview on fashion retailing sector in the international context in order to study the position of this sector in the international crisis context. Due t…
CAROLS campaigns 2009: First Results
2010
International audience; The CAROLS, L band radiometer, is built and designed as a copy of EMIRAD II radiometer of DTU team. It is a Correlation radiometer with direct sampling and fully polarimetric (i.e 4 Stockes). It will be used in conjunction with other airborne instruments (in particular the C-Band scatterometer (STORM) and IEEEC GPS system, Infrared CIMEL radiometer and one visible camera), in coordination with in situ field campaigns for SMOS CAL/VAL. The instruments are implemented on board the French research airplane ATR42. A scientific campaign with thirteen flights is realized over south-western France, Valencia site and Bay of Biscay (Atlantic Ocean) in spring 2009. In order to…
Impact of rocket exhaust plumes on atmospheric composition and climate – an overview
2013
Rockets are the only direct anthropogenic emission sources into the upper atmosphere. Gaseous rocket emissions include CO, N2, H2, H2O, and CO2, while solid rocket motors (SRM) additionally inject significant amounts of aluminum oxide (Al2O3) particles and gaseous chlorine species into the atmosphere. These emissions strongly perturb local at- mospheric trace gas and aerosol distributions. Here, the previous aircraft measurements in various rocket exhaust plumes including several large space shuttle launch vehicles are compiled. The observed changes of the lower stratospheric composition in the near field are summarized.
IMPROVING CNC MACHINE TOOLS ACCURACY USING MODELING AND COMPUTER SIMULATION TECHNIQUES
2007
Abstract The position was one of the first parameters that required the introduction of automatic control process. One of the most representative applications is represented by the feed drives of the computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools. Today, it is possible to use computer simulation techniques in analysing and synthesising position control systems. Thus, the behaviour of the CNC machine tools feed drives can be treated much more realistically. It is the purpose of this paper to show how simulation can be used to accurately represent, predict and improve the performance of a CNC machine tool feed servo drives.
Low-Cost Sensor Based on SDR Platforms for TETRA Signals Monitoring
2021
The paper presents the design and implementation of an electromagnetic field monitoring sensor for the measurement of the Terrestrial Truncked Radio (TETRA) signals using low-cost software defined radio (SDR) platforms. The sensor includes: an SDR platform, a Global Positioning System (GPS) module and a hardware control module. Several SDR platforms having different resolutions of the analog–digital converters were tested in the first phase. The control module was implemented in two variants: a fixed one, using a laptop, and a mobile one, using a Raspberry Pi. The tests demonstrate the following achieved performances: instantaneous acquisition band of 5.12 MHz
Frequency Regulation of Hybrid Power System by Optimized Adaptive Fuzzy PID Controller
2020
In this study, an adaptive fuzzy PID (AFPID) regulator has been proposed for frequency control of hybrid power system. For controller parameter optimization, an upgraded Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) has been employed. In the proposed Upgraded WOA (UWOA) technique, a cosine function is incorporated in the original WOA for determining control parameter to manage the position of whales throughout optimization procedure. Furthermore, scaling factors are employed in original WOA to adjust the travel of whales in search procedure. Proposed UWOA technique is employed to design an AFPID controller for frequency regulation of a hybrid power system It is demonstrated that UWOA technique out per…
