Direct observation of the Ba 114 → Xe 110 → Te 106 → Sn 102 triple α -decay chain using position and time correlations

2016

The triple α-decay chain 114Ba → 110Xe → 106Te → 102Sn has been directly observed for the first time, following the 58Ni(58Ni ,2n) reaction. Implantation of 114Ba nuclei into a double-sided silicon-strip detector has allowed their α decays to be correlated in position and time with the α decays of the daughter (110Xe) and granddaughter (106Te) nuclei. In total, 17 events have been assigned to the 114Ba → 110Xe → 106Te → 102Sn triple α-decay chain. The energy of the 114Ba α decay has been measured to be Eα = 3480(20) keV, which is 70 keV higher than the previously measured value, and the half-life of 114Ba has been measured with improved accuracy, to be 380+190 −110 ms. A revised Q12C value …

A joint reading of positional and relational goods

2013

Both relational and positional goods are based upon an idea of joint consumption - though with opposite signs. Indeed, in both cases, individuals' consumption choices take into account not only the individuals themselves, but others, as well. Given that relational goods provide a form of identity to their consumers, we show that a certain degree of positionality emerges within the consumption of relational goods. Analogously, except in a two-agent context, each positional good also has a relational component. What emerges is a complex structure of economic outcomes based on both relational and positional motives.

Spatial representations of future in Homeric Greek

2015

The aim of this paper is to investigate the space-time mapping of the future in Homeric Greek. It is widely accepted that the spatial adverbs πρόσσω ‘in front’ and ὀπίσσω ‘behind’ in the Homeric poems are used to portray temporal events located in a sequence of aligned entities that follow one after the other on the same path (Dunkel, 1983, p. 66). In such a temporal sequence, or Time-rp model, those adverbs are associated respectively to past and future events in a bipartite spatial representation of time, without involving a deictic ego-experiencer. After analyzing data from the Homeric poems in a cognitive linguistic perspective, it is found that some temporal uses of the preposition πρό…

Managing Relations: a study of positioning strategies in British international discourse

2008

This work deals with corpus-assisted research into speaker ideological positioning in the language of diplomacy. It concentrates on the resources used by the foreign minister Margaret Beckett to construe the speaker “orientation” (Lemke 1992) through the analysis of the main participant in the discourse that is international community and the subject matter being debated namely terrorism. The findings have shown assertiveness and determination from the speaker by the use of contractive mechanisms. The image of the international community is based on cooperation and unity just like a family and it is appraised mainly through judgements of tenacity. These are the resources required to fight t…

Positioning the supply of live performances. Innovative managerial practices relating to the interaction of audience, performance and venue

2006

Because of an abundant offer of shows, the question of the cultural products positioning becomes increasingly crucial for the professionals of this sector. This article proposes to answer this strategic question by identifying original ways of differentiation in order to reinforce the identity of their offer. First of all, we insist on the need for analyzing the relation between the public and the spectacle (central road of positioning). We wish to highlight the various facets that structure this positioning. Then, we examine the interaction between the public and the cultural place (peripheral road of positioning). This tangible framework of consumption experiment can offer promising solut…

Positioning strategies of cultural institutions : a renewal of the offer in the face of shifting consumer habits

2008

One conclusion is widely shared by the practitioners in the cultural sector: consumer relations with cultural products and services have changed. This paper provides a trend marketing analysis of various areas (theatres and performing arts organizations, museums, cultural events, cultural industries, etc.) so as to better understand this “new” cultural consumer. Seven contemporary trends are examined. Each is defined and then illustrated by innovative offers from cultural organizations. Their appraisal by more than a hundred cultural-sector practitioners in France is presented.

Réflexion sur le lieu de consommation culturelle. Une application au cas des musiques actuelles

2004

The following study sheds light on the importance of managing a forsaken element of cultural experience : the place. Because of the weakness of the works relating to this element in the cultural domain, we use the works in distribution. Several competing theories are considered to conceptualize the cultural place: the own characteristics of the place, the behaviors and the “responses to the place”. The last track having our preference, an exploratory study will come in support to define the differents dimensions that compose this “response to the place”. Pop music will constitute our field of application.

Physico-chemical characterisation of a non-conventional food protein source from earthworms and sensory impact in arepas

2009

International audience; This study aimed to characterise a non-conventional protein source: a powder made from earthworms, and to evaluate its potential use as human food. The way it was prepared led to low solubility and wide particle size distribution. Sensory analysis was used to assess the acceptability and the organoleptic properties of maize-based pan-cakes fortified with this novel protein powder. Satisfying products were obtained with a substitution level of 5.5% (w/w) earthworm powder in pan-cakes. GC-MS allowed the identification of more than seventy volatile compounds that may be responsible for the off-odour of the powder. The most abundant chemical groups found in the volatile …
