Women Entrepreneurship and Performance

2011

Research on gendered performance in entrepreneurship is scarce, making the resolution of this issue a relevant research field. Chapter 7 starts by describing what we understand by performance, widening the concept from a financial to an operational or even a stakeholders’ satisfaction level. Next, we present some relevant research that suggests explanations for a gendered difference in entrepreneurs’ performance, mainly in terms of the existence of horizontal segregation, differences in size and in personal attributes of entrepreneurs. The discussion about gender differences in resource possession and accessibility is then introduced as a fundamental concern in this debate, by describing ec…

Borrowing and appropriation of works of art: an exploratory approach

2017

Borrowing of works of art is a consumption experience cannot be limited to its aesthetic dimension. Based on 18 semi-structured interviews with individuals and 28 «memories of works of art» published on the artothèque l’inventaire, this research aims to describe and understand experience with artwork to understand the various hybrid forms of possession of the object and the modalities of the process of appropriation. Given the results, trois figures of consumption seem to appear when it comes to borrow a work of art: the voluntary simplicity, the radical materialism and the ordinary materialism.

This paper concentrates on the problems about the current state of intellectual property and, especially, on the necessity of the implementation of an intellectual property policy in "Lucian Blaga" University which is a comprehensive University. A case study was carried out in which such a policy was proposed, following the in-depth study on the policies of four Universities from the entire world by making a comparative analysis with the policy that WIPO (Worlds Intellectual Property Organization) has elaborated on as an example. El derecho de tenuta como garantía de la restitución dotal en el derecho foral valenciano

2019

The right of «tenuta» arises once the year of mourning —«any de plor»— has elapsed where the heirs to the deceased husband have neither returned the dowry —«exovar»— to the surviving wife nor paid the dotal increase —«creix»—. The widow then obtains possession of the deceased husband's property and is entitled to its usufruct by operation of law. Its purpose is to act as a guarantee, since it aims to secure the return of the «exovar». The «tenuta» ceases when the heirs return the dowry and pay the dotal increase, which means that if they do so immediately after the marriage has ceased, the right does not take effect. The widow may also be deprived of the «tenuta» if she retains it malicious…

Els manuscrits catalans de la Doctrina moral d?en Pacs

2018

This paper analyses from a material and textual viewpoint the four preserved manuscripts containing the Doctrina moral , a work written in the first half of the 15th century by a man from Majorca from the Pacs family. The study of these copies gives us new information about some of the most controversial aspects of this work, such as authorship and date. The two witnesses owned by the Bibliotheque Nationale de France are related to the Italian city of Naples, while the manuscript of the Biblioteca de Catalunya could have been in possession of a branch of the Pacs family, the Conilleres. The codex of the Arxiu de la Corona d’Arago, edited by Bofarull (1857), presents a more innovative copy, …

Remediation Practice at a Former Missile Base in Latvia

1998

Severe environmental pollution of soil and groundwater exists in Latvia from activities that took place at former Soviet military bases. Since 1994, the former owners of these territories have retaken possession of their lands and have started to use their properties for agriculture, exploitation of forests and recreation. These activities have increased the exposure of populations to toxic substances, with subsequent effects on human health.

The Independent Partitive as an Eastern Circum-Baltic isogloss

2015

The paper claims that the independent partitive case in Finnic languages and the independent partitive genitive case in Baltic and East Slavic (henceforth: ip(g)) show considerable correlations that cannot be accounted for but by language contact. Given that both the ip(g) in Baltic and East Slavic as well as the ip(g) in Finnic are inherited from the respective proto-languages, the paper also offers a methodological discussion of how inherited categories may also be shown to be subject to language contact. A typologically not infrequent category must be individualized on the basis of a list of properties. Thus, 13 semantic and 5 morphosyntactic properties have been discussed. While the stu…

Teaching Petrarchan and Anti-Petrarchan Discourses in Early Modern English Lyrics

2012

The aim of the present article is to help students realize that Petrarchism has been an influential source of inspiration for Early Modern English lyrics. Its topics and conventions have lent themselves to a wide variety of appropriations which the present selection of texts for analysis tries to illustrate. A few telling examples from Spenser, Sidney, Donne and Marvell have been chosen where the topic of the lady cast as a valuable treasure is variously addressed. Whereas Spenser’s Sonnet 15 of his Amoretti conveys the lover’s confident hope of its possession in a near marriage, Sidney’s Sonnet 37 of Astrophil and Stella portrays his frustration at the idea of being robbed of his cherished…
