The passage from modernity to post-modernity deeply upset the group dimension, and, consequently, personal identity itself. Transformations involving the entire planet, socio-anthropological changes our society had to cope with are producing a change in the dynamics of identity formation and the appearance of new psychopathological figures. The article shows how the classical political thinking, based on civic virtues, and modernist thinking, based on individualism and self-interest, formed the basis of the U.S. Constitution.
