Characterization of postural control impairment in women with fibromyalgia

[EN] The main goal of this cross-sectional study was to detect whether women with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) have altered postural control and to study the sensory contribution to postural control. We also explored the possibility that self-induced anxiety and lower limb strength may be related to postural control. For this purpose, 129 women within an age range of 40 to 70 years were enrolled. Physical balance of 12-13 year old adolescents in Latvia: problems and solutions

The paper is prepared within the framework of the National science programme “Innovative solutions for social telerahabilitation in the schools of Latvia in the context of inclusive education (INOSOCTEREHI)”. The paper focuses on the adolescents’ balance disorders. Equipment for balance testing BIOSWAY was used in the case study. It showed that almost every fourth adolescent of the age 12-13 years has the total postural stability index below the norm. Only 9.4% of adolescents have normal overall balance control results. It is necessary to find ways how to reduce the identified problem within the context of inclusive education.

The aim of this study was to test the effects of chair-based exercise programs on salivary stress hormones, physical fitness, and functional autonomy of institutionalized older women.In total, 47 participants (80 ± 8.04 years old) were recruited and allocated into three groups: chair-based aerobic exercises (CAE, n = 19), chair-based elastic-band strength exercises (CSE, n = 15), and a control group (CG, n = 13). Handgrip strength and health outcomes: Umbrella review of systematic reviews with meta-analyses of observational studies

Highlights • We carried out an umbrella review of systematic reviews with meta-analyses of observational studies on handgrip strength and all health outcomes. • Three outcomes (lower all-cause mortality, lower cardiovascular mortality, and lower risk of disability) were found to have highly suggestive evidence. • One outcome (chair rise performance over time) was found to have suggestive evidence. • Five outcomes (walking speed, inability to balance, hospital admissions, cardiac death, and mortality in those with chronic kidney disease) were found to have weak evidence.
