We investigate a classical lattice system with $N$ particles. The potential energy $V$ of the scalar displacements is chosen as a $\phi ^4$ on-site potential plus interactions. Its stationary points are solutions of a coupled set of nonlinear equations. Starting with Aubry's anti-continuum limit it is easy to establish a one-to-one correspondence between the stationary points of $V$ and symbolic sequences $\bm{\sigma} = (\sigma_1,...,\sigma_N)$ with $\sigma_n=+,0,-$. — A maximum-likelihood (ML) estimator of the correlation dimension d 2 of fractal sets of points not affected by the left-hand truncation of their inter-distances is defined. Such truncation might produce significant biases of the ML estimates of d 2 when the observed scale range of the phenomenon is very narrow, as often occurs in seismological studies. In this paper we demonstrate that the size distribution of the world income may be reasonably approximated by a log-normal distribution rather then by a power law, as has previously been believed. This result has been shown to be quite persistent as we move from 1985 to 2011.
On the stability of stablecoins

This paper investigates the volatility processes of stablecoins and their potential stochastic interdependencies with Bitcoin volatility. We employ a novel approach to choose the optimal combination for the power law exponent and the minimum value for the volatilities bending the power law. Our results indicate that Bitcoin volatility is well-behaved in a statistical sense with a finite theoretical variance. Surprisingly, the volatilities of stablecoins are statistically unstable and contemporaneously respond to Bitcoin volatility. The Plateau Value (PV) based on the Ratio of Dissipated Energy Change (RDEC) approach has been proven to provide a unique relationship with the fatigue life, N-f, independent of loading mode, temperature and frequency. In this paper, a new simplified approach is proposed to compute the unique energy parameter PV. The results of this study show that applying the proposed method allows a unique fatigue power law to be produced and eliminates the ambiguity and variability in calculating PV. Past research indicates that comparing results of related maps (e.g., soil and geology maps) may aid in identifying mapping deficiencies. In a recent Nature paper, Gabaix et al. \cite{Gabaix03} presented a theory to explain the power law tail of price fluctuations. The main points of their theory are that volume fluctuations, which have a power law tail with exponent roughly -1.5, are modulated by the average market impact function, which describes the response of prices to transactions. Conformational properties of polymer melts confined between two hard structureless walls are investigated by Monte Carlo simulation of the bond-fluctuation model. Parallel and perpendicular components of chain extension, bond-bond correlation function and structure factor are computed and compared with recent theoretical approaches attempting to go beyond Flory's and Silberberg's hypotheses.
