Scoring rules: A cooperative game-theoretic approach

1999

In this work we define the game of the alternatives for each preference profile, and establish relations between scoring rules and cooperative solution concepts for that game, such as the family of semivalues and the family of least square values.

Cross-cultural differences in consumer quality perception of rice

2014

International audience; Most aspects of food product quality perception are culture-bound. We present a cross-cultural study aiming at understandinghow consumers from four countries (French, Japanese, Korean and Thai) perceive, describe and appreciate rice and ricequality. Marked differences were found in participants' motivation to consume rice: sensory and commodity in France; sensoryand health in Japan; nutrition and commodity in Thailand; and nutrition, health and safety in Korea. For the description of ricequalities, despite a few cultural differences, especially between Korean and Thai descriptions of white and brown rice samples, similar sensory profiles were obtained in the four coun…

Acetaldehyde and Motivation

2019

Abstract Acetaldehyde contributes to alcohol’s neuroactive effects through its own motivational properties. This chapter gathers current evidence on acetaldehyde psychoactive action, focusing on behavioral investigations able to unveil acetaldehyde rewarding effects and their pharmacological modulation in vivo. Acetaldehyde induces conditioned place preference for paired environment and cues and is dose-dependently self-administered in a two-bottle choice drinking paradigm. Acetaldehyde’s motivational properties are further highlighted by operant paradigms tailored to model several addiction-like behaviors, such as induction and maintenance of operant responding, drug-seeking in extinction,…

COMPARATIVE ASSESSMENT OF SEVERAL MULTI-CRITERIA DECISION ANALYSIS TOOLS FOR MANAGEMENT OF CONTAMINATED SEDIMENTS

2007

Over the past several decades, environmental decision-making strategies have evolved into increasingly more sophisticated, information-intensive, and complexapproaches including expert judgment, cost-benefit analysis, toxicological risk assessment, comparative risk assessment, and a number of methods forincorporating public and stakeholder values. This evolution has led to an improved array of decision-making aids, including the development of Multi-CriteriaDecision Analysis (MCDA) tools that offer a scientifically sound decision analytical framework. The existence of different MCDA methods and the availability of corresponding software contribute to the possibility of practical implementat…

Multicriteria decision support in a technology competition for cleaning polluted soil in Helsinki

2000

Due to expansion of the capital area in Finland, industrial areas are being replanned for residential and commercial use. The soil in these areas is sometimes contaminated, and must therefore be cleaned before building. In spring 1997 the City of Helsinki and the National Technology Agency of Finland declared a contract-based competition for cleaning the polluted soil of the planned Toukolanranta residential area. Nine proposals entered the competition, and the problem was to choose three best candidates for test-cleaning a small part of the region considered. The winner of the test-cleaning phase will get the contract for cleaning the whole area. The proposals were evaluated based on five …

Effect of two xeno-hormones, genistein and vinclozolin on development and exocrines and endocrines functions of submandibular salivary glands of Wist…

2012

The salivary glands are mixed glands: saliva (exocrine product) is involved inmaintaining oral homeostasis whereas endocrine secretions (eg growth factors) have aphysiological role (gametogenesis, osteogenesis, hypertension ..). In mammals, they displaysexual dimorphism suggesting a possible susceptibility to xeno-hormones.This manuscript presents the action of genistein (phytoestrogen) and/or vinclozolin (antiandrogenic)on the submandibular gland (SM) rats when performing an early exposure via themother (pregnancy, lactation) or an exposure during the growth period (from weaning toadulthood). The SM glands, collected at immature and young adult ages, have been analyzedaccording histologica…

Cross-reinstatement by cocaine and amphetamine of morphine-induced place preference in mice

2005

The cross-reinstatement by psychostimulants of a conditioned place preference (CPP) induced by morphine was evaluated in mice. In Experiment 1, we examined the effects of a single dose of cocaine and amphetamine on a previously extinguished morphine CPP. After acquisition of CPP induced by morphine (40 mg/kg), animals underwent daily extinction sessions of 15 min duration until the CPP was extinguished. Subsequently, animals received a non-contingent injection of cocaine (25 mg/kg) or amphetamine (4 mg/kg), which produced the reinstatement of the extinguished morphine-induced CPP. In Experiment 2, we evaluated the reinstating effects of several priming doses of cocaine (Experiment 2A) or am…

Cooperation and cultural transmission in a coordination game

2009

Abstract The aim of this paper is to analyze if cooperation can be the product of cultural evolution in a two-stage coordination game, consisting of a production stage followed by a negotiation phase. We present an overlapping generations model with cultural transmission of preferences where the distribution of preferences in the population and the strategies are determined endogenously and simultaneously. There are several groups in the society; some of them play cooperatively and others do not. Socialization takes place inside the group, but there is a positive rate of migration among groups which parents anticipate. Our main result shows that all groups converge to the cooperative equili…

Application of a model for the evaluation of the “Visitor Satisfaction” in a nature reserve of South Italy

2017

The protected natural area represents an important resource because from it sustainable and long-lasting social and economic development processes can start. In fact, the conservation of biodiversity can help create economic values by using natural capital which, if properly valorised, can help the momentum of local sustainable development and create diffuse welfare in terms of employment and income. To such a purpose, the evaluation both of the demand by those who enjoy the services of a protected area and of the level of satisfaction that visitors draw from their experience becomes a priority. The present study aims at investigating the behaviour and the preferences of the visitors to a p…
