During his first two years in power Duterte has become the protagonist and exemplar of a key new development – the social formation of a regime of authoritarian populism. Based on an analysis of news reports, public debates, survey results, and official policy documents from 2017, the article examines various features of this emergent regime and then illuminates the historical-institutional mechanisms that brought it about. A model-free methodology is used for the first time to estimate a daily volatility index (VIBEX-NEW) for the Spanish financial market.We use a public data set of daily option prices to compute this index and showthat daily changes in VIBEXNEW display a negative, tight contemporaneous relationship with IBEX daily returns, contrary to other common volatility indicators, as an implied volatility indicator or a GARCH(1,1) conditional volatility model. Artikkeli analysoi, miten ja missä tarkoituksessa maan kolme presidenttiä asemoivat puheissaan Viroa suhteessa Pohjoismaihin vuosina 1992–2016. Tulokset osoittavat, että pohjoismaisuus saa kuulumisen politiikassa moninaisia muotoja: Pohjoismaihin kuulumisen, sen rajalla tai naapurissa olemisen lisäksi aineistossa uudelleen määritellään myös Pohjoismaat yhteisönä visioimalla Itämeren alueelle sijoittuvaa dynaamista ja kehittyvää Pohjola-Baltia-kokonaisuutta.
