Quantitative and qualitative effects of rosuvastatin on LDL-cholesterol: what is the clinical significance ?
2009
Summary Background: Statins have emerged as the global leader in pharmacologic therapy for dyslipidaemia, and rosuvastatin has demonstrated clinical efficacy as well as safety in several clinical trials and postmarketing analyses. Aim: The present article reviewed the effects of rosuvastatin on the quantity and the quality of low-density lipoproteins (LDL). Methods: We searched for and reviewed all the available evidence in a systematic way. A literature search (by Medline and Scopus) was performed using the following headings: ‘LDL-cholesterol’, ‘LDL size’, ‘LDL subclasses’, ‘small dense LDL’, ‘apolipoprotein B, apo B’ and ‘rosuvastatin’ up to 11 November 2008. The authors also manually…
Subjectively evaluated effects of domestic violence on well-being in clinical populations
2013
Effects of domestic violence are reflected in victims' physical, psychological, and sexual health as well as in victims' subjective evaluations of health or subjective well-being. The principal aim of this study was to study the extent to which the consequences of domestic violence are reflected in patients' subjectively evaluated well-being, life management, and sense of security in an emergency department, a maternity department, and a reception unit of a psychiatric hospital. A questionnaire on the effects of domestic violence was administered to 530 patients. 61 patients reported either current or previous domestic violence that affected their current well-being and life management. Dom…
Aspirin After Oral Anticoagulants for Prevention of Recurrence in Patients with Unprovoked Venous Thromboembolism. the Warfasa STUDY
2011
Abstract Abstract 543 Background A recurrence occurs in 15–20% of patients with unprovoked venous thromboembolism (VTE) in the two years after the withdrawal of oral anticoagulant treatment. Extending anticoagulant treatment is effective but associated with increased bleeding risk. We assessed the efficacy and safety of aspirin for the prevention of VTE recurrence after a conventional course of oral anticoagulation. Methods Warfasa was an investigator-initiated double-blind randomized placebo-controlled event-driven study. Patients with a first-ever unprovoked VTE who had completed 6–12 months of oral anticoagulant treatment were randomized to receive aspirin, 100 mg daily, or placebo for a…
972 The effectiveness of injury prevention program on reducing the incidence of lower limb injuries in adolescent male soccer players
2016
Background The highest incidence of injury is seen in adolescent playing pivoting sports such as soccer, basketball, and handball. Objective: To examine the effectiveness of a neuromuscular prevention program in reducing knee and ankle injuries in adolescent male soccer players. Methods Fifty Malaysian boys [25 experimental (EXP); or a 25 control (CON)] adolescent male soccer players (age 13.3 ± 0.4 yr; BMI 20.9 ± 1.5 kg/m 2 ; stature: 160 ± 0.1 cm) from two sport schools, with 4.4 ± 0.5 years playing experience participated. The EXP group followed neuromuscular prevention program 5 days per week, for 12 weeks. The CON group was instructed to continue training and warm-up as usual. A neurom…
The implementation of pre-exposure prophylaxis in Spain without women
2018

Cardiovascular primary prevention risk factors in a nationwide survey, ABC (atrial fibrillation, high blood pressure and high cholesterol) risk facto…
2021
Abstract Background The National Health Service in England “Long Term Plan” aims to prevent 150,000 strokes and myocardial infarctions over the next 10 years. To achieve this, resources are being allocated to improve early detection of conditions strongly associated with cardiovascular disease. This includes working towards people routinely knowing their “ABC” risk factors (“A”: atrial fibrillation (AF), “B': hypertension and “C”: high cholesterol) (1). Purpose The aims of this study were to: 1) determine the proportion of participants with “A”, “B”, and “C” criteria; and 2) to identify risk factors for patients fulfilling any of these criteria. Methods LIPIDOGRAM2015 was a nationwide cross…

Oral Lichen Planus : risk factors of malignant transformation and follow up. Ten years retrospective study
2020
Background Oral Lichen Planus (OLP) is an inflammatory chronic disease. Modified World Health Organization (WHO) diagnostic criteria (2003) suggest diagnosing OLP both clinically and histologically. Furthermore, it is known the potential of malignant transformation of OLP, especially those affecting mucosa. Aims of this retrospective study on 100 patients were i) to estimate the timing of transformation of OLP lesions in OSCC in a cohort of patients observed between 2008 and 2018; ii) to assess risk factors of OLP patients diagnosed with OSCC; iii) to analyse forms of OLP evolved in cancer. Material and methods A database of 100 patients diagnosed with OLP was evaluated and clinical, histol…
Physical exercise program, a strategy to prevent cardiotoxicity in early breast cancer: A literature review
2018
Breast cancer, the most common in women, is a cancer of good prognosis. During this last decade, the improvement of cancer screening and treatment has significantly increased disease-free and overall survival. However, the chemotherapy, especially based on anthracyclines, and targeted therapies like trastuzumab have a toxicity to the cardiovascular system. If physical exercise is recognized as beneficial in tertiary prevention, especially by reducing fatigue, improving the physiological capacities of exercise, muscle strength and ultimately quality of life, conversely, few data are available on the effects of exercise on treatment-induced cardiotoxicity. This review, based on the PubMed dat…
