Notes about the naturalization in Sicily of Paulownia tomentosa (Paulowniaceae) and remarks about its global spread

2019

Paulownia tomentosa is native to different regions of East Asia. Here, the first case of natural regeneration in Sicily is reported. Although Paulownia is not still invading typically Mediterranean areas, mainly due to ecological constraints, its recognized invasiveness at a global level imposes the need to monitor the ongoing process.

Phytophthora Root and Collar Rot of Paulownia, a New Disease for Europe

2021

Paulownia species are fast growing trees native to China, which are being grown in managed plantings in several European countries for the production of wood and biomasses. In 2018, wilting, stunting, leaf yellowing, and collapse, as a consequence of root and crown rot, were observed in around 40% of trees of a 2-year-old planting of Paulownia elongata × P. fortunei in Calabria (Southern Italy). Two species of Phytophthora were consistently recovered from roots, basal stem bark, and rhizosphere soil of symptomatic trees and were identified as Ph. nicotianae and Ph. palmivora on the basis of both morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis of rDNA ITS sequences. Koch’s postulates…

Księżniczka w klasztorze. Przykład Piastówien Śląskich (XII-XV wiek)

2020

It should be emphasized that no princess of the Silesian Piasts was sent to a convent against her will, or when she was underage. In fact, the motives why they went there remain unknown. Altogether, of 166 princesses, 44 (26%) chose life in a cloister. Of the above number, the daughters of Upper Silesian princes constituted the majority (33%), with even more of them (40%) from the Opole principality. In most cases, the princesses became members of the Poor Clare community or the Cisterian Order, with only a few of them joining the Norbertan Order or Dominican sisters. A majority of Silesian princesses were promoted to high posts becoming prioresses or abbesses. Lower Silesian princess attai…
