Intergovernmental Fiscal Relations: The Efficiency Effect of Taxes, Transfers, and Fiscal Illusion
2012
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the efficiency cost of transfers. To this end, we develop a model of individual demand decisions about the provision of a regional public good that encompasses a continuum of tax–transfer scenarios to finance regional public expenditure. We assume that individuals have identical quasi-linear preferences defined over private consumption and the regional public good, that endowment income varies between individuals and regions, and that regions have different predetermined sizes. In an economy-wide resource constrained framework we show that, despite its simplicity, this model is capable of discriminating the efficiency properties of the different scen…
IL RISARCIMENTO PER VIOLAZIONI DEL DIRITTO DELLA CONCORRENZA: AMBITO DI APPLICAZIONE E VALUTAZIONE DEL DANNO
2018
Access, Equity, and Regional Development
2014
All over the world, the transition from elite to mass, and in many cases, universal higher education (Trow & Burrage, 2010) has resulted in a new set of policy dilemmas regarding the governance of higher education (HE) systems in general (Amaral, Jones, & Karseth, 2002), as well as attempts to steer access to HE in particular (Pinheiro, Charles, & Jones, 2013; Pinheiro & Antonowicz, forthcoming).
The euro–dollar exchange rate and equity flows
2009
Abstract I examine equity flows between the US and the euro area and their impact on the euro–dollar exchange rate. I explain equity flows by examining the behavior of an international investor who maintains a minimum variance portfolio. An excess of euro area equity returns over US equity returns generates a flow of equity from the euro area to the US. The equity flow, the purchase of US equities by the euro-area residents, causes appreciation (depreciation) of the dollar (euro), while the purchase of euro area equities by US residents causes appreciation (depreciation) of the euro (dollar).
The Institutional Determinants of Private Equity Involvement in Business Groups The Case of Africa
2015
This study examines the governance attributes of post-IPO (initial public offering) retained ownership of private equity in business group constituent firms in contrast to their unaffiliated counterparts, in 202 newly listed firms in 22 emerging African economies. We adopt an actor centered institutional-theoretic perspective in rationalizing institutional voids and the advantages of maintained governance by both business angels (BA) and venture capital (VC) private equity. Our findings reveal private equity retain higher post-IPO ownership in business group constituents compared to unaffiliated firms and that this is inversely moderated in the context of improving institutional quality. A Letter That Was Lost Summary The paper presents the history of a letter by Tadeusz Kantor of 1981 that was long lost. Kantor responds in it to a proposal from the Institute of Art History of the University of Poznań to have a series of lectures on the avant-garde. Writing that he had not time for it, he explains in some detail his detachment from the institutional study of the avant-garde at the university, stressing his involvement in the avant-garde activity through his art, in particular the Cricot theater. Kantor insists that the avant-garde does not belong to the public domain, but is a result of the artist’s private experience of anxiety and fear in confrontation with the audience a…

2014
In the context of shopping goods, this paper analyzes the key variables in men and women when they have to face private label purchase decision: attitude towards private label, value consciousness, brand consciousness, involvement with the product and private label purchase intention. The moderating role of gender in the relationship between those variables is also analyzed. On a sample of 433 individuals, and considering two different shopping goods, results showed differences between men and women in all the variables, except in the value consciousness. Furthermore, due to a multigroup analysis technique, we found more differences between the variables affecting PL purchase intention. Acc…
Private label food products: Consumer perception and distribution strategies
2022
Food Products Private Label PL, are foods produced by the food industries on order of food distribution companies. Their characteristic is that they are similar to industrial brands but are marketed under the name of the distribution company. Over time they have spread to countries with high per capita income, so much so that today they have become an established product in the food market. Today the PL makes it possible to overcome the criticalities that small agricultural businesses have, which cannot relate to the large-scale retail trade. The PL allow the survival of the company and the permanence of the man in the rural environment. The aim of this research was to analyze the benefits …
