The Effect of Public Infrastructure on the Private Productive Sector of Spanish Regions

In this paper we analyze the effect of infrastructure on the cost and productivity performance of the private productive sector of Spanish regions over the period 1980–1993. We use a dual approach based on cost functions that allows us to recover the usual parameters estimated with production functions. In addition, we obtain rates of return and cost elasticities of production factors at the regional level. Our framework explicitly considers that some factors are quasi-fixed and their volume can differ from their optimal endowment levels. The essay deals with safeguarding the right to a healthy environment in the Italian and English systems, especially for the individuals affected by emissions that corrupt the air quality interfering with their private and family life. The study focuses on the injunction, as a non-compensatory remedy, actionable before the English courts by claimants seeking the decontamination of the polluted areas. The insight into the foreign environmental law will provide a new perspective on the Italian one that (as the European Court of Human Rights stated in the Cordella case) does not secure everyone an effective remedy to the violation of their environmental human right.

Shame in decision making under risk conditions: Understanding the effect of transparency.

The role played by the emotion of shame in the area of decision-making in situations of risk has hardly been studied. In this article, we show how the socio-moral emotions and the anticipated feeling of shame associated with different options can determine our decisions, even overriding the cognitive choice tendency proposed by the certainty effect. To do so, we carried out an experiment with university students as participants, dividing them into four experimental conditions. Our findings suggest that people avoid making unethical decisions, both when these decisions are made public to others and when they remain in the private sphere. International audience; Objective Mental health professionals are routinely called upon to assess the violence risk presented by their patients, frequently aided by structured instruments. Though surveys of risk assessment and management have been conducted, these efforts have been largely circumscribed to individual countries and have not compared the practices of members of different professional disciplines.
