Fungal Biofilms as a Valuable Target for the Discovery of Natural Products That Cope with the Resistance of Medically Important Fungi—Latest Findings
2021
The development of new antifungal agents that target biofilms is an urgent need. Natural products, mainly from the plant kingdom, represent an invaluable source of these entities. The present review provides an update (2017–May 2021) on the available information on essential oils, propolis, extracts from plants, algae, lichens and microorganisms, compounds from different natural sources and nanosystems containing natural products with the capacity to in vitro or in vivo modulate fungal biofilms. The search yielded 42 articles; seven involved essential oils, two Brazilian propolis, six plant extracts and one of each, extracts from lichens and algae/cyanobacteria. Twenty articles deal with th…
Les partis politiques et la représentation proportionnelle.
2015
Assessment in vitro of cytogenetic and genotoxic effects of propolis on human lymphocytes
2012
We evaluated the genetic damage by ethanolic extract of propolis (EEP) induced to human lymphocytes which were exposed to increasing concentrations (0–2000 μg ml−1). The results indicated that EEP reduced significantly the mitotic index (MI) and proliferation index (PI) when high concentrations of EEP were used. Sister chromatid exchange (SCE) rates indicated that EEP could have genotoxic effects at high concentrations. Exposure of the cells to the amount of ethanol used as solvent did not alter either the MI and cell proliferation kinetics (CPK), or the rate of SCE. The results showed: (a) statistical increase in the percentage the cells with CAs and in the frequency of SCE at the highest …
Integrated experimental and computational spectroscopy study on the protonation of the α-nitronyl nitroxide radical unit
2011
The stability of the α-nitronyl nitroxide radical unit under acidic conditions is investigated by an integrated experimental UV/Vis spectroscopy and TDDFT study. In the field of molecular magnetism, α-nitronyl nitroxide radicals are important as purely organic spin carriers due to their synthetic versatility. Here, the existence of an intermediate of the protonated α-nitronyl nitroxide radical unit is demonstrated for the first time and a proposed disproportionation reaction is confirmed.
Insertion reaction of carbon dioxide into Sn-OR bond. Synthesis, structure and DFT calculations of di- and tetranuclear isopropylcarbonato tin(IV) co…
2006
The reaction of carbon dioxide with the stannane nBu2Sn(OiPr)2 and distannoxane [nBu2(iPrO)Sn]2O leads to the selective insertion into one Sn-OiPr bond generating the corresponding nBu2Sn(OiPr)(OCO2(i)Pr) and nBu2(iPrO)SnOSn(OCO2(i)Pr)nBu2 species. Both compounds are characterised by multinuclear NMR, FT-IR and single-crystal X-ray crystallography. In the solid state, they adopt a dimeric arrangement with bridging isopropoxy and terminal isopropylcarbonato ligands. The X-ray crystal structure of the dinuclear stannane shows that the Sn2O2 ring and the two Sn-OCO2C fragments are nearby coplanar. The same holds for the ladder-type tetranuclear distannoxane. The dimeric structures are also evi…
Application of propolis extract, nanovitamin C and nanovitamin E to prevent alveolar osteitis after impacted lower third molar surgery. A randomized,…
2020
Background Propolis has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and healing properties. The purpose of this study was to determine whether a gel containing 2% of propolis extract, 0.2% of ascorbic acid and 0.2% of tocopherol acetate is effective in preventing surgical complications related to impacted lower third molar extractions. Material and Methods A randomized, double-blind, split-mouth study was performed. Fifteen patients were recruited who needed bilateral impacted lower third molar extractions with a similar surgical difficulty. A test or placebo gel was administered randomly inside post-extraction sockets. Each patient was instructed to apply the gel 3 times/day in the surgical wound for a w…
Isomerization and disproportionation of m-xylene in a zeolite with 9- and 10-membered ring pores: Molecular dynamics and catalytic studies
2006
The unique pore topology of zeolite ITQ-13 with 9-membered ring (MR) channels intersected by perpendicular 10-MR channels and larger void space with 10-MR cross-sections was studied for meta-xylene isomerization and disproportionation. Product distribution was interpreted on the basis of pore topology and compared with zeolites with 12-MR (β), 10-MR, and intersecting 12-MR cavities (NU-87), as well as 10-MR (ZSM-5) zeolites. The presence of cavities allows more space for bulky intermediates and/or products and also provides room for molecules to drive consecutive reactions toward thermodynamic equilibrium. Channels, on the other hand, allow diffusion without trapping if their free diameters…
253 PFS of elderly ovarian cancer patients might be predicted by G-8 geriatric screening tool – results of a retrospective cohort study
2021
Introduction/Background* The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of the preoperative global health status on the prognosis of patients with ovarian cancer (OC) older than 60 years, who received cytoreductive surgery. Methodology G-8 geriatric screening tool (G-8 score), Lee Schonberg prognostic index, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status and Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) were determined retrospectively in a consecutive cohort of elderly patients with OC. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses and Kaplan-Meier method were performed to analyze the impact of the preoperative global health status on survival. Result(s)* 116 patients entered the s…

2020
International audience; Introduction The aim of this study was to identify prognostic factors of overall survival in patients with FIGO stage IIIc or IVa ovarian cancer (OC) treated by neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) followed by interval debulking surgery.Materials and methods Data from 483 patients with ovarian cancer were retrospectively collected, from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2016, from the FRANCOGYN database, regrouping data from 11 centers specialized in ovarian cancer treatment. Median overall survival was determined using the Kaplan-Meier method. Univariate and multivariate analysis were performed to define prognostic factors of overall survival. Results The median overall sur…
Predictors of oncological outcomes in T1G3 patients treated with BCG who undergo radical cystectomy
2018
PURPOSE: To evaluate the oncological impact of postponing radical cystectomy (RC) to allow further conservative therapies prior to progression in a large multicentre retrospective cohort of T1-HG/G3 patients initially treated with BCG. METHODS: According to the time of RC, the population was divided into 3 groups: patients who did not progress to muscle-invasive disease, patients who progressed before radical cystectomy and patients who experienced progression at the time of radical cystectomy. Clinical and pathological outcomes were compared across the three groups. RESULTS: Of 2451 patients, 509 (20.8%) underwent RC. Patients with tumors > 3 cm or with CIS had earlier cystectomies (HR = 1…
