Entanglement-induced electron coherence in a mesoscopic ring with two magnetic impurities
2006
We investigate the Aharonov-Bohm (AB) interference pattern in the electron transmission through a mesoscopic ring in which two identical non-interacting magnetic impurities are embedded. Adopting a quantum waveguide theory, we derive the exact transmission probability amplitudes and study the influence of maximally entangled states of the impurity spins on the electron transmittivity interference pattern. For suitable electron wave vectors, we show that the amplitude of AB oscillations in the absence of impurities is in fact not reduced within a wide range of the electron-impurity coupling constant when the maximally entangled singlet state is prepared. Such state is thus able to inhibit th…
Theory of bound polarons in oxide compounds
2001
We present a multilateral theoretical study of bound polarons in oxide compounds MgO and \alpha-Al_2O_3 (corundum). A continuum theory at arbitrary electron-phonon coupling is used for calculation of the energies of thermal dissociation, photoionization (optically induced release of an electron (hole) from the ground self-consistent state), as well as optical absorption to the non-relaxed excited states. Unlike the case of free strong-coupling polarons, where the ratio \kappa of the photoionization energy to the thermal dissociation energy was shown to be always equal to 3, here this ratio depends on the Froehlich coupling constant \alpha and the screened Coulomb interaction strength \beta.…
Stabilizing effect of driving and dissipation on quantum metastable states
2018
We investigate how the combined effects of strong Ohmic dissipation and monochromatic driving affect the stability of a quantum system with a metastable state. We find that, by increasing the coupling with the environment, the escape time makes a transition from a regime in which it is substantially controlled by the driving, displaying resonant peaks and dips, to a regime of frequency-independent escape time with a peak followed by a steep falloff. The escape time from the metastable state has a nonmonotonic behavior as a function of the thermal-bath coupling, the temperature, and the frequency of the driving. The quantum noise-enhanced stability phenomenon is observed in the investigated …
Higgs boson self-coupling measurements using ratios of cross sections
2013
We consider the ratio of cross sections of double-to-single Higgs boson production at the Large Hadron Collider at 14 TeV. Since both processes possess similar higher-order corrections, leading to a cancellation of uncertainties in the ratio, this observable is well-suited to constrain the trilinear Higgs boson self-coupling. We consider the scale variation, parton density function uncertainties and conservative estimates of experimental uncertainties, applied to the viable decay channels, to construct expected exclusion regions. We show that the trilinear self-coupling can be constrained to be positive with a 600/fb LHC dataset at 95% confidence level. Moreover, we demonstrate that we expe…
Semileptonic Λb→ν¯llΛc(2595) and Λb→ν¯llΛc(2625) decays in the molecular picture of Λc(2595) and Λc(2625)
2017
We evaluate the partial decay widths for the semileptonic ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{b}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}}_{l}l{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{c}(2595)$ and ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{b}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}}_{l}l{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{c}(2625)$ decays from the perspective that these two ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{c}^{*}$ resonances are dynamically generated from the $DN$ and ${D}^{*}N$ interaction with coupled channels. We find that the ratio of the rates obtained for these two reactions is compatible with present experimental data and is very sensitive to the ${D}^{*}N$ coupling, which becomes…
Hindered (Δl=0) Alpha Decay and Shape Staggering in191Po
1999
Two $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-decaying isomeric states were observed in ${}^{191}\mathrm{Po}$ with ${E}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}7334(10)\mathrm{keV}$ and $\mathrm{T}{}_{1/2}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}22(1)\mathrm{ms}$ for ${}^{191g}\mathrm{Po}$ and $\mathrm{E}{}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}7378(10)\mathrm{keV}$ and $\mathrm{T}{}_{1/2}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}98(8)\mathrm{ms}$ for ${}^{191m}\mathrm{Po}$. Evidence was found for fine-structure decay to excited levels in the ${}^{187}\mathrm{Pb}$ daughter nucleus. The tentative interpretation of these new lev…
Search for three body pion decays π+→l+νX
2021
The three body pion decays π+→l+νX(l=e,μ), where X is a weakly interacting neutral boson, were searched for using the full data set from the PIENU experiment. An improved limit on Γ(π+→e+νX)/Γ(π+→μ+νμ) in the mass range 0<mX<120 MeV/c2 and a first result for Γ(π+→μ+νX)/Γ(π+→μ+νμ) in the region 0<mX<33.9 MeV/c2 were obtained. The Majoron-neutrino coupling model was also constrained using the current experimental result of the π+→e+νe(γ) branching ratio.
Spline Histogram Method for Reconstruction of Probability Density Functions of Clusters of Galaxies
2003
We describe the spline histogram algorithm which is useful for visualization of the probability density function setting up a statistical hypothesis for a test. The spline histogram is constructed from discrete data measurements using tensioned cubic spline interpolation of the cumulative distribution function which is then differentiated and smoothed using the Savitzky-Golay filter. The optimal width of the filter is determined by minimization of the Integrated Square Error function. The current distribution of the TCSplin algorithm written in f77 with IDL and Gnuplot visualization scripts is available from this http URL
Limits in the characteristic function description of non-Lindblad-type open quantum systems
2005
In this paper I investigate the usability of the characteristic functions for the description of the dynamics of open quantum systems focussing on non-Lindblad-type master equations. I consider, as an example, a non-Markovian generalized master equation containing a memory kernel which may lead to nonphysical time evolutions characterized by negative values of the density matrix diagonal elements [S.M. Barnett and S. Stenholm, Phys. Rev. A {\bf 64}, 033808 (2001)]. The main result of the paper is to demonstrate that there exist situations in which the symmetrically ordered characteristic function is perfectly well defined while the corresponding density matrix loses positivity. Therefore no…
Role of pump diffraction on the stability of localized structures in degenerate optical parametric oscillators.
2000
We show that the stability range of localized structures (LS's) in the form of minimum size phase domains in degenerate optical parametric oscillators is enhanced by increasing the diffraction of the pump wave. Pump diffraction enhances spatial oscillations of decaying tails of domain boundaries, whereas spatially oscillating (weakly decaying) tails prevent the collapse of LS's, enhance their stability range, and allow the existence of more complex LS's in the form of molecules.
