Electroweak penguins in isospin-violating Bs decays

2011

¯Bs ! φ π 0 and ¯ Bs ! φ ρ 0 , which are dominated by EW penguins. Our results extend the analysis in [1] and have recently been published in [2]. Here we give a brief overview of the outcome. We show that in presence of a new EW penguin amplitude the two Bs branching ratios can be enhanced by an order of magnitude without violating any constraints from other hadronic B decays. This makes them very interesting modes for LHCb and Super B factories. We perform both a model-independent analysis and a study within realistic New Physics (NP) models such as a modified- Z 0 -penguin scenario, a model with an additional Z 0 boson and the MSSM, including a fit to B ! πK data and the relevant experim…

Stability of gyrotron operation in very high-order modes

2012

This study was motivated by the desire to increase the power, which can be delivered by gyrotrons in long pulse and continuous regimes. Since the admissible power level is determined by the density of ohmic losses in resonator walls, to increase the radiated power a gyrotron should operate in higher order modes. Using an existing gyrotron developed for plasma experiments in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor as a base model, the stability of operation of such a gyrotron in modes with larger number of radial variations was studied. It is shown that the power level achievable in such gyrotrons in stable single mode regimes is close to 1.5 MW. The power level 1.7–1.8 MW can b…

Microscopic description of dissipative dynamics of a level-crossing transition

2011

We analyze the effect of a dissipative bosonic environment on the Landau-Zener-Stuckelberg-Majorana (LZSM) level crossing model by using a microscopic approach to derive the relevant master equation. For an environment at zero temperature and weak dissipation our microscopic approach confirms the independence of the survival probability on the decay rate that has been predicted earlier by the simple phenomenological LZSM model. For strong decay the microscopic approach predicts a notable increase of the survival probability, which signals dynamical decoupling of the initial state. Unlike the phenomenological model our approach makes it possible to study the dependence of the system dynamics…

Multi-field, multi-frequency bosonic stars and a stabilization mechanism

2021

Scalar bosonic stars (BSs) stand out as a multi-purpose model of exotic compact objects. We enlarge the landscape of such (asymptotically flat, stationary, everywhere regular) objects by considering multiple fields (possibly) with different frequencies. This allows for new morphologies ${\it and}$ a stabilization mechanism for different sorts of unstable BSs. First, any odd number of complex fields, yields a continuous family of BSs departing from the spherical, equal frequency, $\ell-$BSs. As the simplest illustration, we construct the $\ell$ = ${\it 1}$ ${\it BSs}$ ${\it family}$, that includes several single frequency solutions, including even parity (such as spinning BSs and a toroidal,…

Time-of-arrival, angle-of-arrival, and angle-of-departure statistics of a novel simplistic disk channel model

2011

This paper introduces a novel simplistic geometrical disk scattering model in which the local scatterers are uniformly distributed in polar coordinates within a disk centered on the mobile station (MS). The proposed joint uniform distribution in polar coordinates results in a higher concentration of scatterers around the disk center and a lower concentration far from it. Furthermore, it is assumed that the base station (BS) is elevated to a non-scattering region and that a wave transmitted from the BS reaches the MS after a single bounce by one of the randomly distributed scatterers. Under the above-mentioned assumptions, we derive closed-form expressions for the joint probability density f…

Probing the single-particle behavior above Sn132 via electromagnetic moments of Sb133,134 and N=82 isotones

2021

Magnetic and quadrupole moments of the $7/{2}^{+}$ ground state in $^{133}\mathrm{Sb}$ and the $({7}^{\ensuremath{-}})$ isomer in $^{134}\mathrm{Sb}$ have been measured by collinear laser spectroscopy to investigate the single-particle behavior above the doubly magic nucleus $^{132}\mathrm{Sn}$. The comparison of experimental data of the $7/{2}^{+}$ states in $^{133}\mathrm{Sb}$ and neighboring $N=82$ isotones to shell-model calculations reveals the sensitivity of magnetic moments to the splitting of the spin-orbit partners $\ensuremath{\pi}0{g}_{9/2}$ and $\ensuremath{\pi}0{g}_{7/2}$ across the proton shell closure at $Z=50$. In contrast, quadrupole moments of the $N=82$ isotones are insen…

A Symmetry Adapted Approach to the Dynamic Jahn-Teller Problem

2011

In this article we present a symmetry-adapted approach aimed to the accurate solution of the dynamic Jahn-Teller (JT) problem. The algorithm for the solution of the eigen-problem takes full advantage of the point symmetry arguments. The system under consideration is supposed to consist of a set of electronic levels \({\Gamma }_{1},{\Gamma }_{2}\ldots {\Gamma }_{n}\) labeled by the irreducible representations (irreps) of the actual point group, mixed by the active JT and pseudo JT vibrational modes \({\Gamma }_{1},{\Gamma }_{2}\ldots {\Gamma }_{f}\) (vibrational irreps). The bosonic creation operators b +(Γγ) are transformed as components γ of the vibrational irrep Γ. The first excited vibra…

Non-classical Velocity Statistics in Counterflow Quantum Turbulence

2014

In this work we analyse the statistical distribution of turbulent superfluid velocity components in a He II counterflow channel, via two-dimensional numerical simulations pre- sented in past studies. The Probability Density Functions (PDFs) of the superfluid velocity components are investigated at lengthscales smaller than the average intervortex spacing, for varying vortex densities and different wall-normal distances. The results obtained con- firm the non-classical signature of quantum turbulence already observed in past numerical studies.

Spinorial formulation of the GW-BSE equations and spin properties of excitons in two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides

2021

In many paradigmatic materials, such as transition metal dichalcogenides, the role played by the spin degrees of freedom is as important as the one played by the electron-electron interaction. Thus an accurate treatment of the two effects and of their interaction is necessary for an accurate and predictive study of the optical and electronic properties of these materials. Despite the fact that the GW-BSE approach correctly accounts for electronic correlations, the spin-orbit coupling effect is often neglected or treated perturbatively. Recently, spinorial formulations of GW-BSE have become available in different flavors in material-science codes. However, an accurate validation and comparis…

Unified kinetic formulation of incoherent waves propagating in nonlinear media with noninstantaneous response

2010

This article presents a unified kinetic formulation of partially coherent nonlinear optical waves propagating in a noninstantaneous response Kerr medium. We derive a kinetic equation that combines the weak Langmuir turbulence kinetic equation and a Vlasov-like equation within a general framework: It describes the evolution of the spectrum of a random field that exhibits a quasistationary statistics in the presence of a noninstantaneous nonlinear response. The kinetic equation sheds new light on the dynamics of partially coherent nonlinear waves and allows for a qualitative interpretation of the interplay between the noninstantaneous nonlinearity and the nonstationary statistics of the incoh…
