Cocaine addiction and personality: a mathematical model.
2010
The existence of a close relation between personality and drug consumption is recognized, but the corresponding causal connection is not well known. Neither is it well known whether personality exercises an influence predominantly at the beginning and development of addiction, nor whether drug consumption produces changes in personality. This paper presents a dynamic mathematical model of personality and addiction based on the unique personality trait theory (UPTT) and the general modelling methodology. This model attempts to integrate personality, the acute effect of drugs, and addiction. The UPTT states the existence of a unique trait of personality called extraversion, understood as a di…
Generalized Riesz systems and orthonormal sequences in Krein spaces
2018
We analyze special classes of bi-orthogonal sets of vectors in Hilbert and in Krein spaces, and their relations with generalized Riesz systems. In this way, the notion of the first/second type sequences is introduced and studied. We also discuss their relevance in some concrete quantum mechanical system driven by manifestly non self-adjoint Hamiltonians.
Implementability of Liouville Evolution, Koopman and Banach-Lamperti Theorems in Classical and Quantum Dynamics
2002
We extend the concept of implementability of semigroups of evolution operators associated with dynamical systems to quantum case. We show that such an extension can be properly formulated in terms of Jordan morphisms and isometries on non-commutative Lp spaces. We focus our attention on a non-commutative analog of the Banach-Lamperti theorem.
Derivations of the (n, 2, 1)-nilpotent Lie Algebra
2016
In this paper, we study derivations of the (2, n, 1)-nilpotent Lie Algebra
Affine equivariant multivariate rank methods
2003
The classical multivariate statistical methods (MANOVA, principal component analysis, multivariate multiple regression, canonical correlation, factor analysis, etc.) assume that the data come from a multivariate normal distribution and the derivations are based on the sample covariance matrix. The conventional sample covariance matrix and consequently the standard multivariate techniques based on it are, however, highly sensitive to outlying observations. In the paper a new, more robust and highly efficient, approach based on an affine equivariant rank covariance matrix is proposed and outlined. Affine equivariant multivariate rank concept is based on the multivariate Oja (Statist. Probab. …
Gabor-like systems in ${cal L}^2({bf R}^d)$ and extensions to wavelets
2008
In this paper we show how to construct a certain class of orthonormal bases in starting from one or more Gabor orthonormal bases in . Each such basis can be obtained acting on a single function with a set of unitary operators which operate as translation and modulation operators in suitable variables. The same procedure is also extended to frames and wavelets. Many examples are discussed.
Non-self-adjoint Hamiltonians with complex eigenvalues
2016
Motivated by what one observes dealing with PT-symmetric quantum mechanics, we discuss what happens if a physical system is driven by a diagonalizable Hamiltonian with not all real eigenvalues. In particular, we consider the functional structure related to systems living in finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces, and we show that certain intertwining relations can be deduced also in this case if we introduce suitable antilinear operators. We also analyze a simple model, computing the transition probabilities in the broken and in the unbroken regime.
Block–Savits Characterization and Star Ordering of Exponential Mixtures
2008
Block and Savits (1980) established a characterization of life distributions using the Laplace transform. In this article, we remark that one of the necessary conditions to be IFRA distribution is equivalent to the star ordering of exponential mixtures. It leads to the definition of two new classes of life distributions, called LIFR and LIFRA, and their dual classes: LDFR and LDFRA. It occurs that these classes have many useful aging properties and preserve known reliability operations. Properties of the classes are studied and relations with known classes are established.
Produits aléatoires d'opérateurs matrices de transfert
1988
Nous etudions le comportement asymptotique de produits aleatoires d'operateurs de Ruelle-Perron-Frobenius. Nous etendons le travail de Ruelle obtenu dans le cas homogene, au cas aleatoire.
On decoupling in Banach spaces
2021
AbstractWe consider decoupling inequalities for random variables taking values in a Banach space X. We restrict the class of distributions that appear as conditional distributions while decoupling and show that each adapted process can be approximated by a Haar-type expansion in which only the pre-specified conditional distributions appear. Moreover, we show that in our framework a progressive enlargement of the underlying filtration does not affect the decoupling properties (in particular, it does not affect the constants involved). As a special case, we deal with one-sided moment inequalities for decoupled dyadic (i.e., Paley–Walsh) martingales and show that Burkholder–Davis–Gundy-type in…
