A simulation function approach for best proximity point and variational inequality problems

2017

We study sufficient conditions for existence of solutions to the global optimization problem min(x is an element of A) d(x, fx), where A, B are nonempty subsets of a metric space (X, d) and f : A -> B belongs to the class of proximal simulative contraction mappings. Our results unify, improve and generalize various comparable results in the existing literature on this topic. As an application of the obtained theorems, we give some solvability theorems of a variational inequality problem.

Monitoring the effects of therapeutic interventions in depression through self-assessments

2021

The treatment of major psychiatric disorders is an arduous and thorny path for the patients concerned, characterized by polypharmacy, massive adverse side effects, modest prospects of success, and constantly declining response rates. The more important is the early detection of psychiatric disorders prior to the development of clinically relevant symptoms, so that people can benefit from early interventions. A well-proven approach to monitoring mental health relies on voice analysis. This method has been successfully used with psychiatric patients to ‘objectively’ document the progress of improvement or the onset of relapse. The studies with psychiatric patients over 2-4 weeks demonstrated …

Correlations of isokinetic and psychophysical back lift and static back extensor endurance tests in men

1994

Isokinetic lift, psychophysical lift, and static back endurance tests are among the most widely used measurements of muscle function for determining risk for, and recovery from, back problems. After determining test repeatability we examined the degree of association between these test measures in 100 men selected to represent a variety of occupations and lifestyles. Isokinetic lifting had low correlations with test results for psychophysical lifting (r = 0.28) and static back endurance (r = 0.24). Static back endurance and psychophysical lift test results were not at all correlated (r = 0.03). RELEVANCE--:Muscle function measurements for back problems are sometimes arbitrarily selected due…

Some Features of Modeling Ultrasound Propagation in Non-Destructive Control of Metal Structures Based on the Magnetostrictive Effect

2023

A method and mathematical models of direct and inverse problems of ultrasonic testing and diagnostics of complex metal structures for defects were developed and tested. A prototype of a system for magnetostrictive control of elements of the objects under study was manufactured and experimentally tested. Mathematical simulation of ultrasonic testing processes using MATLAB and the COMSOL Multiphysics software environment was carried out. The adequacy of the mathematical models was verified by the results of their comparison with real physical experiments. Information support and a methodology that implements it was developed, which ensure the functioning of the control facilities for these ob…

A concept for personal wellness management based on activity monitoring

2008

Lifestyle related health problems are increasing rapidly. Many of them could be prevented or alleviated by sufficient physical activity, enough sleep, and a balanced diet. Individual citizens have the main responsibility for their own health and wellness management in their daily lives. Motivational tools based on modern technologies can support people in this task. Vivago Personal Wellness Manager (PWM) is a concept for personal wellness management, based on continuous activity monitoring with a wrist-worn device combined with immediate feedback on daily activity, e.g., sleep and physical activity. The concept allows long-term monitoring of activity patterns and includes PC software for de…

ChemInform Abstract: Fluorescent Chemosensors Containing Polyamine Receptors

2000

Chemosensors have attracted interest in many different scientific fields, such as environmental chemistry, medicine, and the processing and storage of information. These molecular-scale devices have the advantage of working on the same spatial scale as the chemical structures that are responsible for macroscopic behaviour observed in the environment or those associated with health problems. Moreover, they allow the construction of molecular-scale devices for information storage. In this review, we describe a family of chemosensors based on a polyamine receptor and a fluorescent signalling unit. Polyamine receptors are water-soluble ambidentate receptors; they are able to coordinate either m…

The moderating effect of attachment styles on the relationships between maltreatment experiences and internalizing and externalizing problems among a…

2020

Multiple studies have documented the relationship between child maltreatment and internalizing and externalizing problems. Evidence suggests that the link between child maltreatment and these psychopathological outcomes may be moderated by various factors. Attachment styles may be one such moderating factor in this relationship. This study seeks to explore whether different attachment style profiles are associated with different forms of maltreatment as well as internalizing and externalizing symptoms, and whether attachment styles may moderate the link between different forms of maltreatment and internalizing and externalizing problems. For this purpose, 387 students from Italian public hi…

The role of executive function in social competence and behavioral problems in the last year of preschool

2018

Diverse studies have found a relationship between executive function, behavioral problems and social competence. However, until this moment, few studies have investigated the role of the distinct components of executive function in social competence, or in the most frequently encountered behavioral problems in childhood education. For this reason, the principal objective of this article is to evaluate the relation of the exec-utive functions with behavioral problems and social competence in infancy. The study included 260 students in their last year of preschool. The results of path analysis showed that all components of executive functions predict, at least, a behavioral problem. However, …

Teaching process writing in an online environment

2015

This reflective practice paper offers some insights into teaching an interdisciplinary academic writing course aimed at promoting process writing. The study reflects on students’ acquisition of writing skills and the teacher’s support practices in a digital writing environment. It presents writers’ experiences related to various stages of process writing, their growing awareness of becoming good writers but also the constant struggle with common writing problems. Preconceived attitudes towards the process of writing provide further obstacles for students to overcome in an interdisciplinary and intercultural learning environment. A writer often overcomes the barriers to effective writing by …

Surrogate assisted interactive multiobjective optimization in energy system design of buildings

2022

In this paper, we develop a novel evolutionary interactive method called interactive K-RVEA, which is suitable for computationally expensive problems. We use surrogate models to replace the original expensive objective functions to reduce the computation time. Typically, in interactive methods, a decision maker provides some preferences iteratively and the optimization algorithm narrows the search according to those preferences. However, working with surrogate model swill introduce some inaccuracy to the preferences, and therefore, it would be desirable that the decision maker can work with the solutions that are evaluated with the original objective functions. Therefore, we propose a novel…
