GIS applications in archaeology

2011

The diffusion of the use of Geographical Information Systems in archaeology has considerably increased in recent years. This multiplicity of applications is due mainly to the growing interest of archaeologists in modern methodologies for the management of archaeological data, surveyed by topographic, photogrammetric and remote sensing techniques. GIS have become a fundamental tool for managing, sharing, analyzing and visualizing spatially referenced data and they are completely substituting the traditional techniques used by archaeologists, based upon filling out forms, graphics and other paper documents. Besides in the modern global society, dominated by mass media such as Internet, the is…

Nutrition-related health problems in a wealthy 17-18th century German community in Jelgava, Latvia.

2012

The aim of this research is to assess the presence of stress in a high status German population from Jelgava, Latvia. The skeletal material used in this study came from a recently excavated church cemetery, with most of the burials dating to the 17-18th centuries. In total, 108 individuals (80 adults and 28 non-adults) were analysed for evidence of scurvy, rickets/osteomalacia and anaemia. The presence of scurvy and healed rickets/osteomalacia could not be confirmed in any adult individual. Among non-adults, a possible diagnosis of scurvy was considered in six individuals, and active rickets was suggested in two others. Cribra orbitalia in adult and non-adult individuals also argued for the…

Discontinuous Gradient Constraints and the Infinity Laplacian

2012

Motivated by tug-of-war games and asymptotic analysis of certain variational problems, we consider a gradient constraint problem involving the infinity Laplace operator. We prove that this problem always has a solution that is unique if a certain regularity condition on the constraint is satisfied. If this regularity condition fails, then solutions obtained from game theory and $L^p$-approximation need not coincide.

Neuropsychological Profile, Emotional/Behavioral Problems, and Parental Stress in Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders

2021

Background: The aim of our study was to trace a specific neuropsychological profile, to investigate emotional-behavioral problems and parental stress in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 1/High functioning (ASD-HF), Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) disorders and to highlight similarities and differences among the three groups. Methods: We retrospectively collected the data from a total of 62 subjects with ASD-HF (n = 19) ADHD (n = 21), SLD (n = 22) and 20 typical development. All the participants underwent neuropsychological standardized test for the evaluation of cognitive profile (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Four…

Aymara Collection of Geraldine Quartararo

2020

The contents of this collection pertain to Aymara, an indigenous language spoken in the Andean Plateau. The data included in this collection were gathered for the purpose of investigating evidentiality. The collection comprises 15 recordings, which have been categorized into three distinct groups. The first group encompasses audio recordings, transcriptions, and corresponding translations of the semi-structured task entitled "Family Problems Pictures." The second group consists of audio recordings, transcriptions, and relative translations of another semi-structured task called the "Pear Story." Lastly, the third group contains audio recordings, transcriptions, and relative translations of …

The Connection between Young Students' Physical Health and Their Lifestyle

2015

<p><em>The goal of this research is to analyze the status of young students’ physical health and its connection with lifestyle. The research participants were 107 Medical College’s 1st year students that formed part of the youth category as it is defined in Latvia, i.e., up until the age of 25. Students’ physical health was evaluated in accordance with Apanasenko’s methods based on investigative anthropometric and functional testing measurements. These measurements included body mass index, vital capacity, strength index, Robinson index and Recovery Heart Rate. Students’ lifestyle habits were determined with the help of questionnaire that included question…

TEENAGERS’ PHYSICAL, MENTAL, SOCIAL BALANCE AS A DEVELOPMENTAL PROBLEM

2016

Promotion of teenagers’ and youth’s physical and mental health is mentioned among the priorities in the state program for the health promotion of the country’s population. Problems of teenagers’ behaviour and communication, emotional reactions, as well as their learning motives and success are often related to their health problems. The investigation verifies that the problems of balance between the teenagers’ physical, mental and social development are often under-evaluated, especially at their initial stage. This might be a reason why the above mentioned problems are un-addressed and related to teenagers behaviour and communication.Theoretical analysis and empirical investigations are gui…

Pasaku izmantošanas iespējas 4 - 5 gadus vecu bērnu uzvedības uzlabošanai

2017

Bounded and unbounded solutions for a class of quasi-linear elliptic problems with a quadratic gradient term

2001

Abstract Our aim in this article is to study the following nonlinear elliptic Dirichlet problem: − div [a(x,u)·∇u]+b(x,u,∇u)=f, in Ω; u=0, on ∂Ω; where Ω is a bounded open subset of RN, with N>2, f∈L m (Ω) . Under wide conditions on functions a and b, we prove that there exists a type of solution for this problem; this is a bounded weak solution for m>N/2, and an unbounded entropy solution for N/2>m⩾2N/(N+2). Moreover, we show when this entropy solution is a weak one and when can be taken as test function in the weak formulation. We also study the summability of the solutions.
