Project DyAdd : Nonlinguistic theories of dyslexia predict intelligence

2020

Two themes have puzzled the research on developmental and learning disorders for decades. First, some of the risk and protective factors behind developmental challenges are suggested to be shared and some to be specific for a given condition. Second, language-based learning difficulties like dyslexia are suggested to result from or correlate with also nonlinguistic aspects of information processing. In the current study, we investigated how adults with developmental dyslexia and ADHD as well as healthy controls cluster across various dimensions designed to tap the prominent nonlinguistic theories of dyslexia. Participants were 18–55-year-old adults with dyslexia (n = 36), ADHD (n = 22), and…

Geo-visual analytics for urban design in the context of future Internet

2009

The internet, where much of the information has reference to location, together with the latest generation of geographical web services, represent a very large information space that can be used for planning and design. The wealth of information accessible, which requires new forms of interaction and management of the data available, has brought in recent year to the growth of the domain of visual analytics. In addition, the availability of 3D geobrowsers provides the technological means for interactive 3D environments which can be used to access large-scale geographical information. This technological scenario is paving the way to 3D web-based, geo-visual analytics tools for land planning …

Activity in the rabbit somatosensory cortex reflects the active procedural memory trace of a classically conditioned eyeblink response.

2003

Behavioral responses and neural responses in the somatosensory cortex were recorded in nine rabbits during the unpaired and paired treatments of classical eyeblink conditioning with a tone conditioned stimulus (CS) and an airpuff unconditioned stimulus. During the unpaired treatment, neither the behavioral nor neural responses to the CS were observed. During the paired treatment, behavioral conditioned response (CR), accompanied by neural activity, was developed. In well-trained animals occasional failures to elicit the CR were accompanied by an absence of neural responses. Nevertheless, the CS modified the behavioral unconditioned response in paired trials, implying that the CR-failures co…

The Egalitarian Quality of Lottocracy

2019

Abstract. Recently, political models which employ lottery-selection instead of ballot voting have been proposed. Proponents argue that such  lottocratic models can improve the representation of the population and reduce undemocratic influences. In this paper, I argue that these proposals also satisfy the egalitarian requirement of democracy. I claim that having an  equal chance to be selected by lot  is equally egalitarian as having  an equally weighed vote  for two reasons: first, having a chance to be selected by lot satisfies the requirement for  political justice better than electoral democracy and second, it provides citizens with equal political  influence  and not merely equal  impac…

Patient selection, echocardiographic screening and treatment strategies for interventional tricuspid repair using the edge-to-edge repair technique

2018

Severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) has long been neglected despite its well-known association with mortality. While surgical mortality rates remain high in isolated tricuspid valve surgery, interventional TR repair is rapidly evolving as an alternative to cardiac surgery in selected patients at high surgical risk. Currently, interventional edge-to-edge repair is the most frequently applied technique for TR repair even though a device has not been developed for this particular indication. Due to the inherent differences in tricuspid and mitral valve anatomy and pathology, percutaneous repair of the tricuspid valve is challenging due to a variety of factors including the complexity and varia…

BREVI NOTE SULL'ONERE DELLA PROVA NEL PROCESSO TRIBUTARIO

2019

Settore IUS/12 - Diritto TributarioThe burden of proof is a cornerstone in procedural rules which takes with it several principles aimed at ensuring the trial purpose to pursuit the truth. Procedural rules in tax law recognize taxpayer’s right to a due process but often in judicial decisions the burden of proof doesn’t seem distributed evenly and he is asked to provide a very difficult proof.

El consentimiento en el proceso penal : ¿un oxímoron?

2021

We are involved in a moment of deep changes in Criminal Procedure due, among other reasons, to the permanent expansion of Criminal Law. Legislative modifications have taken place one another over the world and they have led to a functional reformulation of the role played by the protagonists of Criminal Procedure. These changes have not finished yet and the future is still to come, but new elements are already emerging: the consent of the actors of the process and of the victims and the reinforcement of the principle of opportunity are undoubtedly some of them. Probation, diversion, compliance, criminal mediation are institutions that stand on the principle of consent for procedural purpose…
