Activity in the rabbit somatosensory cortex reflects the active procedural memory trace of a classically conditioned eyeblink response.
2003
Behavioral responses and neural responses in the somatosensory cortex were recorded in nine rabbits during the unpaired and paired treatments of classical eyeblink conditioning with a tone conditioned stimulus (CS) and an airpuff unconditioned stimulus. During the unpaired treatment, neither the behavioral nor neural responses to the CS were observed. During the paired treatment, behavioral conditioned response (CR), accompanied by neural activity, was developed. In well-trained animals occasional failures to elicit the CR were accompanied by an absence of neural responses. Nevertheless, the CS modified the behavioral unconditioned response in paired trials, implying that the CR-failures co…
What shapes Norwegian wind power policy? Analysing the constructing forces of policymaking and emerging questions of energy justice
2021
Abstract This paper employs an assemblage theoretical approach to analyse how Norwegian land-based wind power policies are constructed over time and what forces dominate and resist wind power policy development. The entanglement of policies, technology deployment and (lack of) social acceptance emphasizes the need to critically question what and who influence the construction of energy transition policies and how and what concerns are left out, especially in relation to the tenets of energy justice. We find that wind power policies are primarily influenced by energy authorities, developers and interest organizations, furthering arguments of climate concerns, energy security and economic opp…
K-12 game programming course concept using textual programming
2011
Several programming environments have been constructed to facilitate novice programming at K-12 and CS0/CS1 levels. The environments can be roughly divided into those using visual or textual programming. This paper presents a K-12 game programming course concept based on textual programming. The concept is based on an easy-to-use C# library, called Jypeli, built on top of Microsoft XNA Framework. The library tries to maintain advantages of visual programming and avoid challenges of textual programming. In particular, the library helps beginners to program their first games in a short period of time and without a heavy syntactic load. The course concept and an initial evaluation consisting o…

Troponina e infarto periprocedurale: filo di Arianna o folle volo di Icaro?
2013
Percutaneous coronary interventions cause frequently an increase in myocardial necrosis markers. Is troponin elevation after percutaneous coronary intervention a predictor of events at follow-up or a consequence of the procedure with no cause-effect relationship with prognosis? The debate is still open
Economic sanctions in international arbitration
2018
Historically, economic sanctions, as options of foreign policy, are aimed on changing the behavior of the target state and its regime. In a very extreme situation, economic sanctions can be used in a comprehensive manner, which means prohibiting all kinds of financial transactions with the sanctioned state. The aforesaid policy necessarily constitutes a significant influence on the commercial relations between individuals within a sanctioned state and their international contractual relations. The imposed sanctions can cause obstacles for performing contractual obligations, s can lead to the disputes in international arbitration. Nowadays, the issue of sanctions in international arbitration…
The right to claim for damages if one of the party located on the vessels: Jurisdiction and applicable law
2017
The Masters thesis will resolve some important thesis for parties’ rights to claim for damages if other party breach the contract or agreement. This work is divided into four main sections: first part International contracts sales of goods and its relation to contracts for the carriage of goods by sea; the second part the biggest emphasis will be to draw on the contracts for the carriage of goods by sea; and the third part will be concentrated to applicable law in disputes arising from loss or damage of cargo or delay; and the fourth applicable jurisdiction in disputes arising from international contracts for the carriage of goods by sea.
The Faces of Civil Justice in the Global Society of the 21st Century
2015
Over time the consecration of political and democratic social models have allowed to convert the process into a category of an instrument or alternative in exercising the fundamental right to Access Justice; it is an Instrument, certainly, but it is an indispensable instrument in achieving this and it became a guarantor of citizens, with the right to claim protection and to do so from parameters that responded from a formal structure to the achievements that modern constitutionalism has achieved. We might think the world has changed. And with this change society and Justice has also undergone transformations. The panorama that we live offers us a desperate search for a model of Justice in w…
Some thoughts about the conceptual / procedural distinction in translation: a key-logging and eye-tracking study of processing effort
2014
This article builds on the conceptual / procedural distinction postulated by Relevance Theory to investigate processing effort in translation task execution. Drawing on relevance-theoretic assumptions, it assumes that instances related to procedural encodings will require more effortful processing not only in relation to the time spent on the task but also in terms of product indicators such as seconds per word and number of micro translation units per word. Drawing on key-logging and eye-tracking data, the article shows that there are statistically significant differences when conceptual and procedural encodings are analysed in selected areas of interest, with instances related to procedur…
