Visual quality differences between orthokeratology and LASIK to compensate low-moderate myopia.

PURPOSE: To assess the differences in visual performance between orthokeratology (ortho-k) and laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for the treatment of low-to-moderate myopia. METHODS: An adaptive optics visual simulator (Imagine Eyes) was used to simulate the wavefront aberration patterns induced by ortho-k and LASIK for low and moderate myopia on 10 healthy eyes. Visual acuity (VA) at 100%, 50%, and 10% contrast levels and contrast sensitivity (CS) at 10, 20 and 25 cycles per degree (cpd) were then measured for 3- and 6-mm pupil sizes. Ureteropelvic junction obstruction in association with a duplex collecting system is a rare but challenging upper urinary tract pathology. We report our 21-year experience with this anomaly in terms of presentation, diagnostic evaluation and management.We retrospectively identified all patients with ureteropelvic junction obstruction in a duplex collecting system between 1991 and 2012. We reviewed each case for presenting symptoms, anatomy and management. Abstract Background We reviewed the outcomes of the Achillon minimally invasive suture system and an early semi-functional rehabilitation program for the treatment of acute Achilles tendon ruptures. Methods From December 2006 to April 2008, 18 consecutive patients with acute Achilles tendon ruptures were retrospectively reviewed with an average follow-up of 22 months. Clinical data were assessed with the patient satisfaction and the AOFAS hindfoot score. Biomechanical gait parameters were obtained using the NedAMH/IBV dynamometric platform. Introduction Heterotopic ossification (HO) is known to be a common complication after total hip arthroplasty (THA). The minimal invasive (MIS) modified anterolateral approach has become popular in combination with a short stem. We analysed the incidence of HO following short-stem THA using this approach in combination with a postoperative administration of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The purpose of this study was to define the place of endovascular treatment in chronic intestinal ischemia (CII). We report here a series of 19 consecutive patients treated with percutaneous angioplasty of the intestinal arteries. We excluded patients with acute ischemia, from the study. From January 1, 1989 to December 31, 2001, 19 patients with symptomatic CII were treated by endovascular techniques. This study group included 11 men and 8 women with a mean age of 59 years (range 30 to 90 years).
