Analysis of the effects of magnetic field on the induced stress in drilled plates

Abstract A drilled plate of ferromagnetic material suitably coupled by coils of enameled copper wire fed by a DC power supply to 30 V is considered in this paper. It is analyzed with finite element and later experiments are performed to validate the obtained results. After polishing the plate, two strain gauges for measuring the deformation along the x axis and along the z axis are installed. The values of strain are 5 μm/m in z direction and −2 μm/m in x direction. The experimental–numerical comparison shows that the laboratory results are lower than numerical, while signs and orders of magnitude are the same. Computational fluid dynamics simulation to evaluate aortic coarctation gradient with contrast-enhanced CT

Coarctation of aorta (CoA) is a narrowing of the aorta leading to a pressure gradient (Delta P) across the coarctation, increased afterload and reduced peripheral perfusion pressures. Indication to invasive treatment is based on values of maximal (systolic) trans-coarctation Delta P. A computational fluid dynamic (CFD) approach is herein presented for the non-invasive haemodynamic assessment of Delta P across CoA. Patient-specific CFD simulations were created from contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) and appropriate flow boundary conditions. Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common arrhythmia mainly affecting the elderly population, which can lead to serious complications such as stroke, ischaemic attack and vascular dementia. These problems are caused by thrombi which mostly originate in the left atrial appendage (LAA), a small muscular sac protruding from left atrium. The abnormal heart rhythm associated with AF results in alterations in the heart muscle contractions and in some reshaping of the cardiac chambers. A non-destructive evaluation (NDE) technique capable of testing the dispersion of nanoparticles in a nanocomposite would be of great use to the industry to check the quality of the products made and to ensure compliance with their specifications. Hybrid nanocomposites with ultra-low filling content by nano-coating fragmentation

In the current study, a new technique for the manufacturing of polymer nanocomposites (PNCs) with ultra-low filling content (<0.05 wt%) is presented. Specifically, this method has been validated through the production of polypropylene (PP) nanocomposites with Ag nanoparticles. The presented method first consisted in a metal nano-film deposition on PP pellet substrates by a physical vapor deposition (PVD) sputtering equipment. Subsequently, a percentage of the coated pellet was mixed to uncoated ones via an injection molding machine to produce the PNC in a single step. I principi architettonici della Chiesa Madre di Gibellina (Quaroni e Anversa, 1970) sono emersi dal continuo confronto fra fonti bibliografiche, d’archivio e rilievo dello stato di fatto; tali principi hanno guidato a tal punto il progetto di restauro, elaborato nell'ambito della tesi, da condurlo a una soluzione prefigurata dagli stessi progettisti che, per fatti contingenti, non ebbe seguito né diffusione.
