Towards Sustaining Levels of Reflective Learning: How Do Transformational Leadership, Task Interdependence, and Self-Efficacy Shape Teacher Learning …
2015
Whereas cross-sectional research has shown that transformational leadership, task interdependence, and self-efficacy are positively related to teachers’ engagement in reflective learning activities, the causal direction of these relations needs further inquiry. At the same time, individual teacher learning might play a mutual role in strengthening school-level capacity for sustained improvement. Building on previous research, this longitudinal study therefore examines how transformational leadership, task interdependence, self-efficacy, and teachers’ engagement in self-reflection mutually affect each other over time. Questionnaire data gathered on three measurement occasions from 655 Dutch …
Jet shape modification in Pb-Pb collisions at √S[sub]N[sub]N= 2.76 TeV using two-particle correlations
2018
This thesis focuses on two separate topics. The first topic concerns the upgrade of the Time Projection Chamber (TPC) detector of the ALICE experiment. The upgrade will take place during the second Long Shutdown (2019-2020). The part of the upgrade I participated in was the replacement of the detector’s current readout electronics with Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) foils. This change would allow for the continuous readout of the data, resulting in a hundredfold increase in the amount of data the ALICE experiment can process, as the TPC is the central tracking detector. I was involved in the Quality Assurance (QA) of these GEM foils. The advanced QA procedure consists of three measurements, a…

Systemic Management of Architectural Decisions in Enterprise Architecture Planning. Four Dimensions and Three Abstraction Levels
2006
This paper presents a process model for the management of architectural decisions in enterprise architecture planning. First, decisions are made at the enterprise level, with strategic business considerations on the enterprise information, systems and technology strategy and governance issues. The next step is to define the domains, to then go on with domain architecture decisions. At the systems level, the enterprise and domain architecture decisions are collected and converted into architecture descriptions accurate in precision, form and detail to be given as input to the information systems development process, following the architectural planning. The model is derived from previous wor…
Towards Practical Cybersecurity Mapping of STRIDE and CWE — a Multi-perspective Approach
2021
Software vulnerabilities are identified during their whole life-cycle; some vulnerabilities may be caused by flaws on the design while other appear due to advances on the technologies around the systems. Frameworks such as OWASP are well- known and are used for testing a systems security before or after implementation, and such testing is carried out against the existing system. Threat modeling however focuses on the early stages of the system design when it is feasible and easy to fix security-related flaws and prevent possible damage caused by them. For example, STRIDE is one very popular threat modeling framework. A STRIDE threat modelling specialist deals with abstract categorizations o…
Usability and acceptability of a fall monitoring system
2017
Falls and injurious falls affect one third of the older people. Those experiencing a fall might be unable to call for help remaining unattended for a long time. Pain, hypothermia and dehydration are common consequences. Additionally, ensuing fear of falling may reduce physical activity leading to functional decline and possibly institutionalization. Monitoring fall events the CONFIDENCE system could summon emergency assistance automatically thus reducing the negative consequences of falls. This thesis is part of the European FP7 project “Ubiquitous care system to support independent living” (CONFIDENCE) which developed a fall monitoring system based on three-dimensional (3D) localization of…
Differences in consumer perspectives how sustainable food consumption is perceived and signalled in the prevailing consumer culture : among Generatio…
2016
This thesis investigates Generation Y sustainable food consumers in the prevailing consumer culture and their differences in signalling and perceiving sustainability. The reasons why they engaged to a sustainable diet and the possible conflicts around it were also studied. Relevant contexts around consumer culture, possessions, identities and Generation Y regarding sustainable food consumption were presented as the theoretical framework. The focus was on Generation Y consumers in order to recognize relevant the contexts that influence their behaviour in the marketplace. Qualitative research methods were utilized as the data was gathered through nine in-depth interviews furthermore applied t…
Projektu izmantošana skolēnu iniciatīvas uzņemšanās uzlabošanai angļu valodas stundās 5.klasēs
2019
Projekts “Skola 2030” pakāpeniski ievieš pārmaiņas Latvijas izglītības sistēmā, kompetenču izglītībai esot vienai no šīm izmaiņām.
Investigating the effectiveness of a digital game-based task on the acquisition of word knowledge
2020
This study investigates the probable effect of a digital game-based vocabulary learning (DGBVL) task on the acquisition of some components of a word knowledge framework. In so doing, 124 Persian speakers (56 males and 68 females) were randomly assigned to either a control or an experimental group. The experimental group participants completed a DGBVL task for acquiring ten low-frequent inanimate object names, or lexical nouns, by playing a commercial adventure game. The control group participants practiced the same words in a fill-in-the-blank vocabulary acquisition exercise. In brief, first, all participants sat for a word-checklist and a proficiency test; next, they completed their tasks,…
The sidelining of gender equality in a corporatist and knowledge-oriented regime : The case of failed family leave reform in Finland
2020
Reform of the family leave system has been on the Finnish political agenda for a long time but has proved to be a challenging task. The challenges relate to ideological differences between the political parties and to non-decision making in tripartite working groups, where the labour market parties participate in policy formulation. The article analyses the recent attempt to reform the Finnish family leave system under a right-conservative government (2015–2019) as an example of how diverging political ideologies and vested interests undermine adoption of government gender equality policy. The case also serves as an example of the growing influence of knowledge, and especially economic know…
