Kinematics of Cervical Spine during Rowing Ergometer at Different Stroke Rates in Young Rowers: A Pilot Study
2022
Background: Research on biomechanics in rowing has mostly focused on the lumbar spine. However, injuries can also affect other body segments. Thus, the aim of this pilot study was to explore any potential variations in the kinematics of the cervical spine during two different stroke rates on the rowing ergometer in young rowers. Methods: Twelve young rowers of regional or national level were recruited for the study. The experimental protocol consisted of two separate test sessions (i.e., a sequence of 10 consecutive strokes for each test session) at different stroke rates (i.e., 20 and 30 strokes/min) on an indoor rowing ergometer. Kinematics of the cervical spine was assessed using an iner…
A four-session acceptance and commitment therapy based intervention for depressive symptoms delivered by masters degree level psychology students: a …
2013
Background:Depressive symptoms are one of the main reasons for seeking psychological help. Shorter interventions using briefly trained therapists could offer a solution to the ever-rising need for early and easily applicable psychological treatments.Aims:The current study examines the effectiveness of a four-session Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) based treatment for self-reported depressive symptoms administered by Masters level psychology students.Method:This paper reports the effectiveness of a brief intervention compared to a waiting list control (WLC) group. Participants were randomized into two groups: ACT (n= 28) and waiting list (n= 29). Long-term effects were examined using…
Rational Herding in Reward-Based Crowdfunding: An MTurk Experiment.
2020
Crowdfunding is gaining popularity as a way of financing social sustainable initiatives. We performed a controlled economic experiment in MTurk by simulating a crowdfunding platform and developed a theoretical model that rationalizes herding behavior. The experiment was designed to test and quantify the causal effects of revealing specific information to prospective backers: (i) the number of early contributors already financing the project and (ii) positive opinions of other backers versus those of experts. The results show that early contributions to the campaign and positive opinions of peers act as a reinforcing signal to potential backers and affect backers&rsquo
Does Physical Activity Improve Inhibition in Kindergarteners? A Pilot Study
2022
Substantial empirical evidence supports the positive effects of physical activity (PA) on executive functions, but not all forms of physical activity benefit equally. Among kindergarteners, cognitively-engaging exercise seems to more strongly effect EF than simple exercise. We aimed to investigate several qualitatively different exercise formats on kindergarteners' inhibition. Participants were 75 children (M age = 68.1 months), recruited from 14 classrooms of three kindergarten schools. They were randomly assigned to three groups: control group, free play group (non-cognitively-engaging PA), and an intervention group (cognitively-engaging PA). The intervention group performed 18 sessions …
Pressure support ventilation + sigh in acute hypoxemic respiratory failure patients: Study protocol for a pilot randomized controlled trial, the PROT…
2018
Background Adding cyclic short sustained inflations (sigh) to assisted ventilation yields optimizes lung recruitment, decreases heterogeneity and reduces inspiratory effort in patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure (AHRF). These findings suggest that adding sigh to pressure support ventilation (PSV) might decrease the risk of lung injury, shorten weaning and improve clinical outcomes. Thus, we conceived a pilot trial to test the feasibility of adding sigh to PSV (the PROTECTION study). Methods PROTECTION is an international randomized controlled trial that will be conducted in 23 intensive care units (ICUs). Patients with AHRF who have been intubated from 24 h to 7 days and under…
Absorption of European Funds by Romania During 2014-2020
2021
Abstract The time span between 2014 and 2020 constitutes a new, multi-annual financial framework. During this time, by negotiating with the European Union, Romania received financing through 5 major types of funds which were part of the European Structural Investments Funds (ESIF) and which were structured in six major Operational Programs, the most consistent of which is POIM - The Major Infrastructure Operational Program (MIOP). Within this financial framework, Romania needs to improve its absorption of funds based on the experience gained in the previous framework, with regards to issues like bureaucracy, corruption, lack of qualified personnel for the implementation of projects, the tra…
THE CURRENT STAGE OF EU FUNDS ABSORPTION BY FINANCING PROGRAMMES - AS ROMANIA'S PERFORMANCE IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT PRACTICE
2011
We hear more often talking about a "project society" within the meaning of society that are frequently used to carry out projects and programs, to perform unique processes of medium and high complexity; the necessity for a culture project to pass through the Romanian society from the central and local public institutions, the private sector, to small communities. It is the society we live in and the realities we face. This article, besides being a current analysis of data on how available funds so necessary to Romania have been accessed and used by beneficiaries, creates a premise for a future study which aims to analyze the difficulties faced by beneficiaries in the management of projects …
BUILDING THE PROJECT TEAM AND PROJECT ORGANIZATION – CHALLENGES AND OBSTACLES
2011
The building of a project team can be one of the first hurdles the future team manager faces. The blame for this can be constraints in terms of resources to fund salaries, lack of adequate or properly trained personnel, unavailability of specialists the manager needs within the project in the period this is scheduled, but also other causes. The building of a project team process must also correlated with its future structure, the two components influencing each other in both directions. Choosing an appropriate structure for the project to be implemented is not only necessary, but, moreover, may prove fatal to the extent that is not obtained.
'It's like a Sentence before the Sentence' - Exploring the Pains and Possibilities of Waiting for Imprisonment
2020
This article explores the implications of the ‘imprisonment queue’ in Norway. Based on interview data (N = 200), we show that while interviewees waiting to serve their sentences enjoy certain benefits such as being able to prepare for or negotiate the terms of their imprisonment, they also suffer from uncertainty and powerlessness. The suspension of their lives while they wait hinders them in pursuing their ground projects, things that really matter to them. This peculiar phenomenon has not received attention from prison scholars generally, as well as scholars writing on Nordic Exceptionalism specifically. This article addresses that gap and poses questions about the relative mildness of th…
Kierunki modernizacji sieci kolejowej
2017
Opracowanie przedstawia kierunki modernizacji sieci kolejowej Polski w latach 2003-2017. Długość sieci kolejowej w kraju ulega zmniejszeniu. Zachodzi proces likwidacji linii i zawieszenia przewozów kolejowych. W kraju modernizowane są główne linie magistralne. Na modernizację składają się: wymiana torów, przebudowa trakcji elektrycznej i wprowadzenie nowoczesnych systemów sterowania ruchem i sygnalizacji (ECTS). Przebudowie ulęgają linie kolejowe o znaczeniu tranzytowym zaliczane do europejskiego układu połączeń kolejowych w ruchu pasażerskim (umowa AGC) i towarowym (umowa AGTC). Projekty modernizacji linii kolejowych są finansowane ze środków europejskich i krajowych. Główne źródła finanso…
