Multidimensional Model Design using Data Mining: A Rapid Prototyping Methodology

2017

[Departement_IRSTEA]Ecotechnologies [TR1_IRSTEA]MOTIVE; International audience; Designing and building a Data Warehouse (DW), and associated OLAP cubes, are long processes, during which decision-maker requirements play an important role. But decision-makers are not OLAP experts and can find it difficult to deal with the concepts behind DW and OLAP. To support DW design in this context, we propose: (i) a new rapid prototyping methodology, integrating two different DM algorithms, to define dimension hierarchies according to decision-maker knowledge; (ii) a complete UML Profile, to define a DW schema that integrates both the DM algorithms; (iii) a mapping process to transform multidimensional …

A Methodology and Tool for Rapid Prototyping of Data Warehouses Using Data Mining: Application to Birds Biodiversity

2014

Data Warehouses (DWs) are large repositories of data aimed at supporting the decision-making process by enabling flexible and interactive analyses via OLAP systems. Rapid prototyping of DWs is necessary when OLAP applications are complex. Some work about the integration of Data Mining and OLAP systems has been done to enhance OLAP operators with mined indicators, and/or to define the DW schema. However, to best of our knowledge, prototyping methods for DWs do not support this kind of integration. Then, in this paper we present a new prototyping methodology for DWs, extending [3], where DM methods are used to define the DW schema. We validate our approach on a real data set concerning bird b…

Asymmetric Single Point Incremental Forming of Sheet Metal

2005

The use of computers in manufacturing has enabled the development of several new sheet metal forming processes, which are based upon older technologies. This paper describes modifications that have been made to traditional forming methods such as conventional spinning and shear forming, forming processes in which deformation is localized. Recent advances have enabled this localized deformation to be accurately controlled and studied. Current developments have been focused on forming asymmetric parts using CNC technology, without the need for costly dies. Asymmetric Incremental Sheet Forming has the potential to revolutionize sheet metal forming, making it accessible to all levels of manufac…

Incremental Forming Process for the Accomplishment of Automotive Details

2007

In the last decades the scenario of the industrial production is remarkably changed, since new market requirements have to be faced by the industries. The market, actually, more and more, asks for vary models and niches product. The necessity to intercept dynamically and to satisfy the demands for the market, driver of the innovation process, involves the necessity to reduce the Timeto- market introducing to new methodologies of engineering, like the 3D-prototyping, for the qualitative and structural analysis of the final component. For these reasons, at the beginning of the nineties, a new philosophy of sheet metal forming process begins to assert on the industrial scene, whose basic logic…

SPICE model for resistive gas and odour sensors

1999

A generalised PSPICE model of resistive gas/odour sensors is presented. The model simulates the response of both polymeric and metal oxide devices, as well as an integrated resistive heater that is used to set the operating temperature. In both cases there was good agreement between the observed responses and the PSPICE simulated responses to rectangular pulses of gases. The PSPICE model is not only simpler and faster to use than analytical solutions, but also should permit the rapid prototyping of associated drive circuitry.

Rapid prototyping platform for stream-oriented reconfigurable computing applications

2010

In this paper we present a methodology and tool for rapid prototyping of real time image processing applications. We describe our design flow of multiprocessor system on chip (MPSoC) architectures based on hardware/software components. This methodology provides automated methods to specify, generate the hardware, software, and the architectural interfaces between them. Our methodology starts from system level specification of the application with parallel processes described in C-code. The processes communicate through an abstract channel called streams. We describe also the solution that we proposed to synthesize a custom bus architecture for the reconfigurable computing applications, whic…

Identification of Precious Artefacts: The Sonic Imprint for Small Artefacts

2010

Identification of artworks is mainly based on a few characteristics which can be observed using non-invasive tools (sight, touch, simple instruments), the investigated properties being geometry, weight, colours, texture, etc. Nowadays, technology allows reproducing all these characteristics to such an extent that even expert conservators can be deceived: in particular at the present time even the geometry of an artwork can be easily reproduced with the help of laser scanner analysis and with a rapid prototyping machine or a computer numerical control (CNC) milling machine. We propose a new tool, the Sonic Imprint, producing a code capable of identifying a rigid artefact from its vibrational…

Laser Ablation of Poly(lactic acid) Sheets for the Rapid Prototyping of Sustainable, Single-Use, Disposable Medical Microcomponents

2018

The employment of single-use, disposable medical equipment has increased the amount of medical waste produced and the advent of point-of-care diagnostics in lab-on-chip format is likely to add further volume. Current materials used for the manufacture of these devices are derived from petroleum sources and are, therefore, unsustainable. In addition, disposal of these plastics necessitates combustion to reduce infection risk, which has, depending on material composition, an undesirable environmental impact. To address these issues, we have developed a general approach for the rapid prototyping of single-use point-of-care cartridges prepared from poly(lactic acid), a sustainable material whic…

How do startups develop internet-of-things systems : a multiple exploratory case study

2019

Internet-of-Things applications are not only the new opportunity for digital businesses but also a major driving force for the modification and creation of software systems in all industries and businesses. Compared to other types of software-intensive products, the development of Internet-of-Things applications lacks a systematic approach and guidelines. This paper aims at understanding the methodological commonalities among startups who are developing Internet-of-Things products. Using the SEMAT Essence framework, we captured common team compositions, common types of Minimum Viable Products and common way of working in early stage Internet-of-Things startups. We found that startups includ…

Toward more realistic viscosity measurements of tyre rubber–bitumen blends

2014

AbstractThe measurement of rheological properties of the tyre rubber bitumen blends is often challenging due to presence of suspended tyre rubber’s crumbs. Furthermore, the phase separation during the course of measurements makes the viscosity of these non-homogeneous blends difficult to ascertain. In this study, a new dual helical impeller was designed and manufactured to be used with a rotational viscometer in order to have a real-time control of the viscosity while performing a laboratory mixing of the blends. Layer based manufacturing techniques showed to be a convenient method to produce complex shaped impeller prototypes before manufacturing the more expensive stainless steel assembly…
