Measuring the presence of organized crime across Italian provinces: a sensitivity analysis

AbstractThe existing literature identifies different indicators to construct organized crime indices and places equal importance to different concepts of organized crime. This paper examines the sensitivity of organized crime across Italian provinces when different set of indicators and weights are used to combine crime indicators. Our findings suggest that there is a remarkable variation in the distribution of organized crime across Italian provinces based on the choice of indicators and the importance given to different crime indicators. Abstract Mercury is gaining prominence as a proxy for large igneous province (LIP) volcanism in the sedimentary record. Despite temporal overlap between some mass extinctions and LIPs, the precise timing of magmatism relative to major ecological and environmental change is difficult to untangle, especially in marine settings. Changes in the relative contents of Hg in sedimentary rocks through time, or ‘Hg anomalies’, can help resolve the timing of LIP activity and marine extinctions. Devona mugurkaulnieku atrodņu tafonomiskais raksturojums un veidošanās apstākļi dienvidaustrumu Baltijā Pirmo reizi paleontoloģisko pētījumu vēsturē Baltijā ir veikta detalizēta Živetas, Franas un Famenas mugurkaulnieku atrodņu tafonomisko īpašību analīze, izmantojot mūsdienu metodiku. Savā starpā ir salīdzinātas vidējā un augšējā devona oriktocenozes Latvijas teritorijā, bet Baltijas (Galvenā devona lauka) fosiliju atrodnes ir salīdzinātas ar sakopojumiem Dienvidu Timanā. Abstract Black shale samples from sedimentary layers below and between the Unterer Stein, Oberer Stein, Inoceramus Bank, and Nagelkalk horizons from the Dormettingen quarry, SW Germany were analysed for their Re and Os isotope composition and content. The ~12-m-thick sedimentary sequence of the Posidonia Shale Formation, composed of multiple layers of black shale and intercalated limestone beds, was deposited during the Early Jurassic (Toarcian), a time during which black shale sedimentation was ubiquitous in Western Europe during a widespread oceanic anoxic event.
