Substituent effects on the stability of the four most stable tautomers of adenine and purine
2019
Substituent effects at the C2-, C8- and N-positions of adenine and purine in their four the most stable tautomers are studied by means of B97D3/aug-cc-pvdz computation applying substituents of varying electronic properties: NO2, CN, CHO, Cl, F, H, Me, OMe, OH and NH2. The substituent effect is characterized by the substituent effect stabilization energy (SESE) and substituent Hammett constant σ. For adenine, SESE is obtained with purine as the reference system. Additionally, for both adenine and purine, SESE characteristics are estimated with benzene, imidazole and amino-pyrimidine as reference systems, when possible, taking into account substitution in topologically equivalent positions. T…
Le marché du travail des scientifiques : capital humain, incitations, proximité
2011
The aim of that thesis is to bring a micro level contribution to the economics of innovation when using original datasets on the French case. Here the manuscript is structured in three chapters: the labour market of scientists and engineers, the incentives for innovation in the private sector and the existence of spatial spillovers in the school to work transition for graduates in science and engineering (S & I). In the first chapter of this thesis, we focus on the labour market for scientists and engineers. First, we identify the different characteristics of this labour market. We then analyze the determinants of access to R & D for young graduates in S & I. Finally, we question more broad…
Are Non-Special Dimensions of Proximity in Local Clusters Related? An Analysis of 99 European Clusters
2022
The destructive effects of industries on the environment are the most crucial reason for the need for firms’ proximity to developing innovative activities such as corporate sustainability. However, most prior efforts have focused on the role of different types of proximity in cluster performances, not the relationship among them. Therefore, this study intends to go one step back, discuss the inter-relationships between different types of proximity, and propose them in a conceptual model as the antecedents of corporate sustainability. These factors are known as the non-specific dimensions of proximity within local clusters: cognitive, organisational, institutional, and social, which received…
Early warnings of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus infestation of Phoenix canariensis: a proximity thermal sensing approach
2011
Phoenix canariensis represents one of the most relevant ornamental plants within Mediterranean environment. In the last few years the infestation of a curculio coleopteron, namely the Rhynchophorus ferrugineus, caused a widespread decimation of these palms. Unluckily damages caused by the insect are evident only in the advanced phase of the disease making futile almost any plant treatment. Early warning of this disease may represents the only way to setup efficient actions to fight the coleopteron in trees where it takes over, thus limiting its spreading in contiguous palms. This research aims to achieve the former result by processing: i) short and long-wave images of the crown acquired du…
Voltage Collapse Proximity Assessment for Radial Distribution Networks
2005
The paper deals with voltage stability assessment in radial distribution networks. The voltage collapse proximity index already utilized in literature for power transmission systems is assumed. Based on the optimal impedance solution of a two-bus equivalent system, this index indicates how far the load nodes of the actual network are from their voltage collapse points, allowing the weak node and its maximum load power beyond which voltage collapse takes place to be identified. The proposed method differs from the other methods on the determination of the parameters which define the two-bus equivalent of the network, allowing to better identify the maximum loading point beyond which the volt…
A Novel Recruitment Policy to Defend against Sybils in Vehicular Crowdsourcing
2021
Vehicular Social Networks (VSNs) is an emerging communication paradigm, derived by merging the concepts of Online Social Networks (OSNs) and Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs). Due to the lack of robust authentication mechanisms, social-based vehicular applications are vulnerable to numerous attacks including the generation of sybil entities in the networks. We address this important issue in vehicular crowdsourcing campaigns where sybils are usually employed to increase their influence and worsen the functioning of the system. In particular, we propose a novel User Recruitment Policy (URP) that, after extracting the participants within the event radius of a crowdsourcing campaign, detects …
Optimization Problems via Best Proximity Point Analysis
2014
Many problems arising in different areas of mathematics, such as optimization, variational analysis, and differential equations, can be modeled as equations of the form Tx=x, where T is a given mapping in the framework of a metric space. However, such equation does not necessarily possess a solution if T happens to be nonself-mapping. In such situations, one speculates to determine an approximate solution x (called a best proximity point) that is optimal in the sense that the distance between x and Tx is minimum. The aim of best proximity point analysis is to provide sufficient conditions that assure the existence and uniqueness of a best proximity point. This special issue is focused on th…
The PROVIDE Traning Courses for proximity violence' professionals
2020
The chapter describes a prototype of training course for "Expert operators in proximity violence" focusing on asylum-seeking migrant women victims of violence and implemented in three European States. In particular it defines: the rationale of training by modules in adapting individual abilities of professionals of migrazion field to the professional goals to be achieved (1), the methodological implementation of the PROVIDE courses (2) and the significance of the experiential seminars conducted (3).
Manifold instances of proximity violence and proximity vulnerability of the migrant women
2020
Over the past few decades and up until 2017, Sicily has hosted increasing numbers of African fugitives into the European Union. Within this markedly multicultural context, the authors carried out a two-part qualitative research project, the first part consisting in participative observation of a number of sub-Saharan women hosted by some of the island’s refugee reception centres, victims of abuse, followed by a set of semi-structured interviews administered to them. The aim of the paper was to analyse some of the role positions found in gender dynamics among migrants, throwing light on possible processes by which mechanisms of submission to and normalisation of gender violence seem to have …
