Abstract The decision where to host major sports events is the result of a political process, involving local and national politicians as well as national and international sport governing bodies. Politicians and local/national sport governing bodies decide whether to apply for an event, while international sports governing bodies select the host cities (nations). Local and national residents play an important role in this process as their opinion will influence whether the political system supports the application and is willing to fund the event. More than one child out three, in the world, who don't access to school live in countries which are in conflict or which have governments non-engaged in politics of poverty reduction or which lacks of operating capacity. Given this, in these fragile States, mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa, universal primary schooling will be off target for 2015, so invalidate the Millennium Development Goals. Organized crime and public spending: a panel data analysis

The aim of this paper is to investigate, empirically, what components of public spending imply a decreasing effect on organized crime and what components create opportunities for organized crime, discussing also the role of government efficiency. Using a panel data analysis, the results show a strikingly consistent pattern for the EU Member States. Organized crime mainly operates in the distribution of government spending for local public goods and public provision of private services. Although viruses lack many of the social adaptations shown by more complex organisms, different types of social interactions have been unraveled in viruses. Phage research has contributed significantly to the development of this field, called sociovirology, with the discovery of processes such as intracellular and extracellular public good production, prudent host exploitation, cheating, and inter-phage communication. Asset Markets and Equilibrium Selection in Public Goods Games with Provision Points: An Experimental Study

This paper reports the experimental results of implicit pre-play communication on the equilibrium selection in threshold public goods game experiments. The existence of an asset market in which the right to participate in a public goods game with a provision point is auctioned off among a larger group in a first stage is found to enhance significantly the contribution to the provision of the public good in a subsequent second stage. Though, contributions declined on average in the repeated public goods game when subjects were endowed with the right to play, they increased when subjects purchased the right to play. Firms can pursue own objectives, much like the consumers. Infinite-dimensional commodity spaces are accommodated. Considerable investments in Open Source software projects have been made in the last years by competing firms who could have free-ridden on the others' efforts. We identify two properties, one of decreasing returns to knowledge production and the other of preference for differentiated products in a monopolistically competitive market, which explain the phenomenon.
