El tratamiento de los phrasal verbs en los manuales de inglés lengua extranjera

2020

In this article we will study how phrasal verbs (PhVs) are dealt with in a representative sample of EFL student’s books of Secondary Education and Baccalaureate. From both a quantitative and qualitative point of view, the following aspects will be analysed: (i) whether PhVs are explicitly included into the index of each manual; (ii) whether there are any specific theoretical sections explaining their syntactic and semantic characteristics (and if so, what they consist of); (iii) whether there are any activities and/or exercises designed to practice and internalize these structures and, if any, to which methodological approach they attend; if any differences in the treatment of the PhVs may …

The digitized curriculum: voices and silences in the publishing field

2015

Plan S: challenges and opportunities in Spain

2019

Spain is one of the most active European countries in the open access (OA) movement. Although the gold route has scarcely been used, the green route has been intensively implemented through fulfilment of European and national mandates and the development of institutional policies. Plan S is becoming a disruptive element in the context of scientific communication, and Spain’s possible adherence to Plan S could imply technical challenges in journals and repositories, additional costs that are difficult to estimate, or refusal to accept the Plan on the part of researchers (based on the loss of freedom to choose the journal in which to publish). However, the implementation of Plan S in Spain wo…

[Spanish funded paediatric research: Contribution of Anales de Pediatría to its dissemination].

2017

Objective: To identify Spanish funded paediatric research published in general paediatric journals included in the Web of Science (WoS) from 2010 to 2014 and those published in Anales de Pediatría. To examine the relationship between funding and the prestige of the journals. To describe the journal conditions to meet the open access criteria. Material and method: Spanish funded paediatric articles (FA) were identified by using the WoS Funding Agency field, and by reviewing the original documents for Anales de Pediatria (AP). For the FA published in AP the number and kind of funding agencies were identified. The possible differences in citations between FA and non-funded was assessed for art…

Priming index of the Spanish word fragments from the Dasí, Soler, and Ruiz (2004) database

2007

Word-fragment completion is a frequently used test in implicit memory research. A database of 196 Spanish fragments was recently published (Dasi, Soler, & Ruiz, 2004) in which the fragments were described for indices, such as difficulty, familiarity, frequency, number of meanings, and so on (www.psychonomic.org/archive). In this work, a new index, thepriming index, is described for the same 196 fragments. This index is calculated for each fragment by subtracting the difficulty index (the proportion of correct completion when the fragment is not studied) from the proportion of correct completion when the fragment is studied, and it means the capacity of an item to be primed. In order to dete…

The N400 as a correlate of interpretively relevant linguistic rules: evidence from Hindi.

2009

Classical views on the electrophysiology of language assume that different event-related potential (ERP) components index distinct linguistic subdomains. Hence, left-anterior negativities are often viewed as correlates of rule-based linguistic knowledge, whereas centro-parietal negativities (N400s) are taken to reflect (non-rule-based) semantic memory or aspects of lexical-semantic predictability. The present ERP study of case marking in Hindi challenges this clear-cut dichotomy. Though determined by a grammatical rule, the choice of subject case in Hindi is also interpretively relevant as it constrains the range of possible interpretations of the subject. For incorrect subject cases, we ob…

When Competition Is Pushed Too Hard. An Agent-Based Model Of Strategic Behaviour Of Referees In Peer Review

2013

This paper examines the impact of strategic behaviour of referees on the quality and efficiency of peer review. We modelled peer review as a process based on knowledge asymmetry and subject to evaluation bias. We built two simulation scenarios to investigate largescale implications of referee behaviour and judgment bias. The first one was inspired by “the luck of the reviewer draw” idea. In this case, we assumed that referees randomly fell into Type I and Type II errors, i.e., recommending submissions of low quality to be published or recommending against the publishing of submissions which should have been published. In the second scenario, we assumed that certain referees tried intentiona…

Reply to “Caution in underrepresentation of older adults in clinical trials on COVID-19 vaccines”

2021

We would like to thank Chen et al. for their comments on our recently published paper in Ageing Research Reviews (Veronese et al., 2021). In this reply we would like to answer to the points raised in their letter. Regarding the first question, we decided to run our search only in PubMed/Medline and ClinicalTrials.gov since the phase II-III randomized controlled trials of SARS-CoV 2 vaccines, considering the urgency for interventions to ameliorate the pandemic situation, received a great deal of interest. Therefore, they were usually published in high impact factor journals, reported in PubMed, and their protocols were usually reported in clinicaltrials.gov. However, following the suggestion…
