Dependence of fracture toughness of composite laminates on interface ply orientations and delamination growth direction

A critical review has been performed of the published experimental research concerning delamination onset and growth in composite laminate interfaces of different lay-ups under single-mode loadings. It was found that, depending on the loading mode and interface lay-up, the traditional fracture toughness characterization by unidirectionally reinforced composite tests can lead to marked under- or overestimation of material resistance to crack growth. Empirical models of fracture toughness as a function of delamination front orientation with respect to reinforcement directions of the adjacent laminae have been validated and their applicability range established.
Delamination study of through-thickness reinforced composite laminates via two-phase interface model

A technique to enhance the strength of the composite laminates in the thickness direction consists in inserting through-thickness reinforcement, by which the potential delamination crack faces are bridged in order to increase the interlaminar fracture strength. In this paper, the composite delamination is analyzed in the context of non-linear fracture mechanics making use of the interface concept. On the Kneser property for reaction–diffusion equations in some unbounded domains with an -valued non-autonomous forcing term

Abstract In this paper, we prove the Kneser property for a reaction–diffusion equation on an unbounded domain satisfying the Poincare inequality with an external force taking values in the space H − 1 . Using this property of solutions we check also the connectedness of the associated global pullback attractor. We study also similar properties for systems of reaction–diffusion equations in which the domain is the whole R N . Finally, the results are applied to a generalized logistic equation.
High-Efficiency Regulation Method for a Zero-Current and Zero-Voltage Current-Fed Push–Pull Converter

A new high-efficiency regulation method for a zero-current and zero-voltage current-fed push-pull converter is presented. The method proposed is based on the use of a controlled transformer as a post-regulator, which adds or subtracts an additional voltage to the output filter of the converter. An auxiliary regulator, which only handles a percentage of the output power, controls this transformer, and therefore, results in much higher efficiency than a normal preregulator would have. The objective of the study is to address the factors contributing to emigration from Latvia, in particular by highlighting the importance of social factors in the emigration decision, using the theory of push and pull factors of migration as a theoretical basis. The role of the family and the desire to improve not only the economical, but also the social and psychological conditions of families are important factors in the decision-making process, while maintaining links with Latvia. Growth and macromolecular content of the dimorphic fungus Aureobasidium pullulans and the effect of hydroxyurea and other inhibitors

The growth kinetics and the macromolecular content of the yeast and ethanol-induced hyphal forms of Aureobasidium pullulans were studied. During the morphological transition from yeasts to hyphae, both the protein and RNA content decreased significantly, the mycelial form containing only 76% of the amount of protein in the yeasts, and 38% of the RNA. The DNA was the only component tested whose level increased during the transition. Among several compounds inhibiting macromolecular synthesis, only hydroxyurea showed a remarkable effect on the morphology of A. pullulans, inducing the mycelial morphology. An AC-assisted single-nanowire electromechanical switch

A unique two-source controlled nanoelectromechanical switch has been assembled from individual, single-clamped Ge nanowires. The switching behaviour was achieved by superimposing the control signals of specific frequencies to the electrostatic potential of the output terminals, eliminating the need for an additional gate electrode. Using an in situ manipulation technique inside a scanning electron microscope, we demonstrate that the pull-out force required to overcome adhesion at the contact can be significantly reduced by exciting mechanical resonant modes within the nanowire.

Abstract Chemically modified pullulan was evaluated for its sorption efficiency and selectivity to remove cadmium (Cd) from spiked high-hardness groundwater (GW). Pullulan esterified with succinic anhydride using dimethylaminopyridine showed a fairly high degree of substitution value as confirmed by 1 H NMR spectroscopy. Pullulan succinate (Pull-Suc) was converted into the sodium salt (Pull-Suc-Na). The effect of contact time (5–200 min) and pH (2–8) on Cd-uptake by the sorbent (Pull-Suc-Na) was investigated.
