2005

Abstract The 1H and 13C NMR chemical shifts for six toxaphene congeners: 2-exo,3-endo,6-exo,8,9,10-hexachloro- (1), 2-exo,3-endo,5-exo,9,9,10,10-heptachloro- (2), 2-exo,3-endo,6-exo,8,9,10,10-heptachloro- (3), 2-exo,3-endo,5-exo,6-endo,8,9,10-heptachloro- (4), 2-exo,3-endo,5-exo,6-endo,8,9,9,10-octachlorobornane (5) and 2,5-endo,6-exo,8,9,9,10,10-octachloro-2-bornene (6) are reported. Their chemical shift assignments have been obtained by means of Pulsed Field Gradient (PFG) Double Quantum Filtered (DQF) 1H,1H correlation spectroscopy (COSY), PFG 1H,13C Heteronuclear Multiple Quantum Coherence (HMQC) and PFG 1H,13C Heteronuclear Multiple Bond Correlation (HMBC) experiments. Studies on supramolecular gel formation using DOSY NMR

2015

Herein, we present the results obtained from our studies on supramolecular self-assembly and molecular mobility of low-molecular-weight gelators (LMWGs) in organic solvents using pulsed field gradient (PFG) diffusion ordered spectroscopy (DOSY) NMR. A series of concentration-dependent DOSY NMR experiments were performed on selected LMWGs to determine the critical gelation concentration (CGC) as well as to understand the behaviour of the gelator molecules in the gel state. In addition, variable-temperature DOSY NMR experiments were performed to determine the gel-to-sol transition. The PFG NMR experiments performed as a function of gradient strength were further analyzed using monoexponential…

Electrostatic field theory and circuit analysis in the design of coalescers with pulsed dc voltage

2009

This paper presents a mathematical analysis of the electric field and interfacial free charge experienced by the emulsion in an electrostatic coalescer that is subjected to a pulsed dc voltage. Previous work in this area is re-assessed, but the analysis is expanded. A novel static analysis of the system is presented, giving valuable physical insight. It becomes obvious that there must be a limited range of frequencies that are effective in a pulsed dc scheme. Thereafter, analytical expressions for the steady-state solution, where both the switching frequency and duty ratio (or mark space ratio) can be varied, are presented for the first time. These expressions are used to derive voltage and…

Atomic Radiative Lifetimes Measured by Pulsed Laser Spectroscopy in the Uv/Vuv Spectral Region

1998

Abstract Experimental lifetime measurements on free atoms and ions performed by using pulsed laser excitation in the ultraviolet and vacuum-ultraviolet spectral regions are presented. Different methods of laser pulse generation, atomization and light detection are described. A short summary of results obtained is also given. Future possibilities in determination of lifetimes and transition probabilities in the short wavelengths region are discussed.

Electrochemistry of copper complexes with polyaza[n]paracyclophanes. Influence of ATP as an exogen ligand on the relative stability of the Cu(II) and…

2000

Abstract Interaction of Cu 2+ with the macrocycle 2,6,9,13-tetraaza[14]paracyclophane (L) and ATP has been followed by pH-metric titration, cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Mixed adduct species with various degrees of protonation were found to be stable for pH>4. In neutral and alkaline media reduction of mixed complexes occurs in a two-electron quasi-reversible step in contrast with binary Cu 2+ L complexes which display two successive one-electron couples. The potentiometric and voltammetric data suggest that in ternary adducts ATP binds to Cu 2+ ions through the phosphate chain and one N-site of the adenine ring system.

Time-resolved luminescence and induced absorption in PbWO4

1997

Abstract Luminescence and short-lived induced absorption are studied for two undoped PbWO4 crystals. Luminescence decay at LNT is delayed relative to irradiation pulse. The delay observed is either due to reabsorption of luminescence or due to creation of luminescence center excited states via energy or/and charge transfer after irradiation pulse. Short-lived absorption is observed within 1.1–3.6 eV spectral region at LNT as well as at RT. It is proposed that the short-lived absorption band peaking at ~ 3.5 eV is intrinsic.

Effects of temperature on electron paramagnetic resonance of dangling oxygen bonds in amorphous silicon dioxide

2011

The properties of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) signal of oxygen dangling bonds in amorphous SiO2 ("non-bridging oxygen hole centers", NBOHC) in excimer laser-irradiated amorphous SiO2 were studied in the temperature range 20K to 295K. NBOHCs strongly affect optical and chemical properties of amorphous SiO2 -based (nano) structures and their surfaces. The behaviour of their EPR signal is complicated due to a nearly degenerate electronic ground state. It was found that EPR signal has a non-Curie (~1/T) T-dependence down to 40K, indicating that EPR-based concentration estimates routinely obtained at T = 77K underestimate the center concentrations at least by a factor of 1.7. The estim…

Dynamics of ground and excited state chlorophylla molecules in pyridine solution probed by femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy

1999

Abstract Femtosecond pump–probe spectroscopy was used to investigate the ground and excited state dynamics of chlorophyll  a (Chl  a ) in pyridine following excitation by a 100 fs optical pulse. The transient absorption spectrum and kinetics reveal spectral evolution on two ultrafast time scales: ∼100 fs and ∼3 ps. We attribute these dynamics to ground-state transient hole-burning and solvation dynamics. Transient absorption anisotropy at early times (∼500 fs) was measured for Chl  a in pyridine and shows a pronounced wavelength dependence, where anisotropy varies between 0 and 0.5. Strong contribution from excited state absorption is the origin of the variation.

Spectral investigation of spin echo emission

1993

Abstract The spectral content of the echo radiation emitted after a two-pulse sequence is measured in a two-level spin system. The spectral profiles exhibit maxima and zeroes of spectral density depending on the exciting sequence parameters. A calculation based on a vectorial model relates the zeroes to those packets that happen to be transparent to the second (refocusing) pulse. Moreover we report on a new spectral narrowing effect which we tentatively ascribe to the instantaneous diffusion.

Ultrafast Electronic and Vibrational Energy Relaxation of Fe(acetylacetonate)3 in Solution

2007

Transient mid-infrared spectroscopy is used to probe the dynamics initiated by excitation of ligand-to-metal (400 nm) and metal-to-ligand (345 nm) charge transfer states of FeIII complexed with acetylacetonate (Fe(acac)3, where acac stands for deprotonated anion of acetylacetone) in solution. Transient spectra in the 1500-1600 cm-1 range show two broad absorptions red-shifted from the bleach of the nu(CO) (approximately 1575 cm-1) and nu(C=C) (approximately 1525 cm-1) ground state absorptions. Bleach recovery kinetics has a time constant of 12-19 ps in chloroform and tetrachloroethylene and it decreases by 30-40% in a 10% mixture of methanol in tetrachloroethylene. The transient absorptions…
