Modulational instability processes in optical isotropic fibers under dual- frequency circular polarization pumping

2002

Experiments are presented showing that, under dual-frequency, circular polarization pumping, host modulational instability processes can be generated in a single-mode isotropic fiber by careful tuning of the frequency spacing between the pumps.

Non-adiabatic quantized charge pumping with tunable-barrier quantum dots: a review of current progress.

2014

Precise manipulation of individual charge carriers in nanoelectronic circuits underpins practical applications of their most basic quantum property --- the universality and invariance of the elementary charge. A charge pump generates a net current from periodic external modulation of parameters controlling a nanostructure connected to source and drain leads; in the regime of quantized pumping the current varies in steps of $q_e f$ as function of control parameters, where $q_e$ is the electron charge and $f$ is the frequency of modulation. In recent years, robust and accurate quantized charge pumps have been developed based on semiconductor quantum dots with tunable tunnel barriers. These de…

Single-parameter quantized charge pumping in high magnetic fields

2008

We study single-parameter quantized charge pumping via a semiconductor quantum dot in high magnetic fields. The quantum dot is defined between two top gates in an AlGaAs/GaAs heterostructure. Application of an oscillating voltage to one of the gates leads to pumped current plateaus in the gate characteristic, corresponding to controlled transfer of integer multiples of electrons per cycle. In a perpendicular-to-plane magnetic field the plateaus become more pronounced indicating an improved current quantization. Current quantization is sustained up to magnetic fields where full spin polarization of the device can be expected.

Exciton, biexciton and trion recombination dynamics in a single quantum dot under selective optical pumping

2008

Continuous wave- and time-resolved micro-photoluminescence spectroscopy has been performed on single InAs self-assembled quantum dots grown on GaAs. The presence of residual impurities (donors and acceptors) in samples with low dot density opens the possibility to switch from trion to neutral exciton states inside quantum dots by selective optical pumping. We propose a microstate model to describe the recombination dynamics of all the excitonic especies (neutral exciton, positive/negative trion and biexciton) under the considered optical pumping conditions when increasing the excitation power. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. Spin pumping and measurement of spin currents in optical superlattices

2016

We report on the experimental implementation of a spin pump with ultracold bosonic atoms in an optical superlattice. In the limit of isolated double wells, it represents a 1D dynamical version of the quantum spin Hall effect. Starting from an antiferromagnetically ordered spin chain, we periodically vary the underlying spin-dependent Hamiltonian and observe a spin current without charge transport. We demonstrate a novel detection method to measure spin currents in optical lattices via superexchange oscillations emerging after a projection onto static double wells. Furthermore, we directly verify spin transport through in situ measurements of the spins' center-of-mass displacement.

Influence of light polarization on the dynamics of optically pumped lasers.

1990

The dynamic behavior of a coherently pumped ring laser with a homogeneously broadened four-level medium is analyzed theoretically, considering linearly polarized pump and generated laser beams. The laser is shown to be much more stable when these polarizations are parallel than when they are orthogonal. In the latter case the instability pump threshold can be as low as four times the first laser threshold, and the laser dynamics shows Lorenz-type features.

Short-wavelength soft-x-ray laser pumped in double-pulse single-beam non-normal incidence

2010

We demonstrated a $7.36$ nm Ni-like samarium soft-x-ray laser, pumped by $36$ J of a neodymium:glass chirped-pulse amplification laser. Double-pulse single-beam non-normal-incidence pumping was applied for efficient soft-x-ray laser generation. In this case, the applied technique included a single-optic focusing geometry for large beam diameters, a single-pass grating compressor, traveling-wave tuning capability, and an optimized high-energy laser double pulse. This scheme has the potential for even shorter-wavelength soft-x-ray laser pumping.

Polarized3He targets in medium energy physics at MAMI

2011

Experiments with polarized 3He targets at the Mainz Microtron (MAMI) involve double polarized photoabsorption or the extraction of the electric form factor of the neutron Ge,n via electron scattering, respectively. Polarized 3He with an initial polarization of up to 70% at the experimental areas is provided by a polarizer based on the principle of metastability exchange optical pumping (MEOP). In this article both target setups for the photon- and the electron beamlines will be described and a status of the data analysis will be given.

Far-infrared laser action from parabolic quantum dots matrix

2008

In this paper we present results of calculations for quantum dots matrix acting as an active medium in novelty proposal of far-infrared laser. The proposal is based on the pumping laser by rapid (nonadiabatic) switching on in-plane electric field which allows us to obtain population inversion. The numerical analysis of electron-photon system kinetics was performed for various electric fields and temperatures. These calculation utilises the method of solving the Cauchy problem for infinite chain of linear differential equations. Also the contribution of dynamics of non-radiative transitions mediated by the phonons has been taken account. The obtained results indicate that by the properly cho…

Laser spectroscopy measurement of isotope shifts and nuclear moments of short-lived neon isotopes

2003

Within the scope of a laser spectroscopy study of nuclear structure in the sd shell we are measuring nuclear moments and isotope shifts of neon isotopes. An ultra-sensitive variant of collinear laser spectroscopy [1, 2] is applied to a neutralized fast beam from ISOLDE (CERN). The non-optical detection is based on optical pumping, state selective collisional ionization and β-activity counting. This method gives access in particular to the short-lived isotopes in the extended chain of 17–26,28Ne.
