Structural properties of the range-II- and range-III order in amorphous-SiO2 probed by electron paramagnetic resonance and Raman spectroscopy

In the present work we report an experimental investigation by electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy on the hyperfine structure of the E. point defect, probing the local arrangement of the network (range-II order), and by Raman spectroscopy on the D 1 and D 2 lines, probing mean features of the network (range-III order). Our studies, performed on a-SiO 2 samples thermally treated at 1000 °C in air for different time durations, show that changes of the hyperfine structure and of the D 1 and D 2 lines occur in a correlated way. We calculate the spectrum of Lyapunov exponents for a point particle moving in a random array of fixed hard disk or hard sphere scatterers, i.e. the disordered Lorentz gas, in a generic nonequilibrium situation. In a large system which is finite in at least some directions, and with absorbing boundary conditions, the moving particle escapes the system with probability one. However, there is a set of zero Lebesgue measure of initial phase points for the moving particle, such that escape never occurs. Typically, this set of points forms a fractal repeller, and the Lyapunov spectrum is calculated here for trajectories on this repeller. For this calculation, we need the solution of the recently…
Ge-doping dependence of gamma-ray induced germanium lone pair centers in Ge-doped silica

We report an experimental study on the y irradiation effects in Ge-doped sol-gel silica samples doped with Ge from 10 2 up to 10 4 part per million molar. The samples were exposed to the radiation generated by a 60 Co source up to an accumulated dose value of 10 MGy. Our data evidence that the γ irradiation significantly increases the number of Germanium Lone Pair Centers (GLPC). Such defects are induced with a concentration that depends on the Ge content of the employed material in those samples where no optical activity related to -s GLPC was detected before irradiation. We investigate the effect of costly punishment in a trust game with endowment heterogeneity. Our findings indicate that the difference between the investor and the allocator’s initial endowments determines the effect of punishment on trust and trustworthiness. Punishment fosters trust only when the investor is wealthier than the allocator. Otherwise, punishment fails to promote trusting behavior. As for trustworthiness, the effect is just the opposite. The higher the difference between the investor and the allocator’s initial endowments, the less willing allocators are to pay back. Building on Ilse van Liempt’s (2023) lecture, this commentary addresses the connection and shift between forced displacement and local emplacement by addressing what becoming part of the city means for racialized immigrants. By bringing forward the notion of racialization I hope to contribute to a growing body of literature discussing how malleable and productive the concept of race – albeit erased and relegated to the past – keeps on shaping conversations about and across Europe. Coupled systems of non-smooth differential equations

Abstract We study the geometric qualitative behavior of a class of discontinuous vector fields in four dimensions. Explicit existence conditions of one-parameter families of periodic orbits for models involving two coupled relay systems are given. We derive existence conditions of one-parameter families of periodic solutions of systems of two second order non-smooth differential equations. We also study the persistence of such periodic orbits in the case of analytic perturbations of our relay systems. These results can be seen as analogous to the Lyapunov Centre Theorem.

Chronic exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) affect the immune system of fish and could lead to a decreased disease resistance. The effects of Aroclor 1254, PCB mixtures, on the Diplodus puntazzo innate immunity were examined by assaying the zymosan stimulated chemiluminescence response (CL) of peritoneal cavity cells (PCCs) at various times (1, 24, 48 h and 1-4 weeks) from intraperitoneal injection of the xenobiotic (1 mg kg(-1) body weight). Controls were performed by assaying cells from medium-treated fish. Il saggio mette a raffronto gli ordinamenti giuridici inglese ed italiano con particolare riferimento all'istituto della responsabilità civile. Segnatamente, il tema della responsabilità per fatto illecito è affrontato allo scopo di cogliere i punti di contatto e quelli di differenza tra gli ordinamenti considerati e di descrivere i possibili canali di collegamento tra un istituto che ha guadagnato un posto centrale negli ordinamenti giuridici e che ora appare ad un bivio: ulteriore espansione o suo deperimento. Lo scritto affronta, quindi, le varie anime della civil lability inglese e gli incroci polifunzionali della responsabilità civile in Italia.
