The assessment of skeletal status in young patients with Turner syndrome by 2 densitometric techniques: Phalangeal quantitative ultrasound and dual e…

2018

Background. Studies using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) demonstrate a reduction in bone mineral density (BMD) in children and adolescents with Turner syndrome (TS). However, these studies do not take into account changes in bone size, which influence BMD in the case of short-statured patients. Phalangeal quantitative ultrasound (phQUS) measurements have shown an ability to reveal changes due to skeletal growth, aging, and bone and mineral disorders. There is limited data on bone mineral status in girls with TS assessed by 2 different techniques, i.e., DXA and phQUS. Objectives. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential negative impact of TS on bone status and to assess…

Ocena stanu szkieletu u dzieci i młodzieży z cukrzycą typu 1 przy użyciu ilościowej metody ultradźwiękowej paliczków dłoni. Badanie pilotażowe

2008

Cel pracy. Ocena stanu szkieletu u dzieci i młodzieży z cukrzycą typu 1 przy użyciu ilościowej metody ultradźwiękowej paliczków dłoni. Materiał i metody. W badaniu wzięło udział 152 pacjentów, 82 chłopców i 70 dziewcząt z cukrzycą typu 1, w wieku – średnio: dziewczęta 13,11±2,93, chłopcy 12,89±3,12. Średni czas trwania choroby wynosił u dziewcząt 4,66±2,43, a u chłopców 4,19±2,36 lata. Średnia wartość hemoglobiny glikowanej HbA1c w dniu badania wynosiła w grupie dziewcząt 7,1±1,3%, a w grupie chłopców 7,2±1,2%. Grupę kontrolną stanowiło 219 zdrowych dzieci (121 chłopców i 98 dziewcząt), dobranych pod względem wieku i płci. Do oceny szkieletu użyto aparatu DBM Sonic 1200, który mierzy zależn…

Association between low-frequency ultrasound and hip fractures - comparison with DXA-based BMD

2014

Background: New methods for diagnosing osteoporosis and evaluating fracture risk are being developed. We aim to study the association between low-frequency (LF) axial transmission ultrasound and hip fracture risk in a population-based sample of older women. Methods: The study population consisted of 490 community-dwelling women (78 – 82 years). Ultrasound velocity (V LF ) at mid-tibia was measured in 2006 using a low-frequency scanning axial transmission device. Bone mineral density (BMD) at proximal femur measured using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) was used as the reference method. The fracture history of the participants was collected from December 1997 until the end of 2010. Li…
