An Analytical Step-by-Step Procedure to Derive the Flexural Response of RC Sections in Compression

This paper proposes an analysis procedure able to determine the flexural response of rectangular symmetrically reinforced concrete sections subjected to axial load and uniaxial bending. With respect to the usual numerical approaches, based on the fibre decomposition method, this procedure is based on the use of analytical expressions of the contributions to the equilibrium given by the longitudinal reinforcement and the concrete region in compression, which depend on the neutral axis depth and the curvature at each analysis step. A procedure to achieve fine control in MW processing of foods

Abstract A two-dimensional analytical model for predicting the unsteady temperature field in a cylindrical shaped body affected by spatially varying heat generation is presented. The dimensionless problem is solved analytically by using both partial solutions and the variation of parameters techniques. Having in mind industrial microwave heating for food pasteurization, the easy-to-handle solution is used to confirm the intrinsic lack of spatial uniformity of such a treatment in comparison to the traditional one. ESTIMATION OF INJECTION PRESSURE DURING MOLD FILLING.

Dimensionless diagrams for estimating the bulk temperature of the flow front and injection pressure in the limit of small viscous generation are obtained. Also, a criterion for neglecting viscous generation is identified, The diagrams, based on the Lord and Williams model, refer to rectangular geometry and amorphous materials. A satisfactory comparison is obtained with literature data taken on polystyrene. A reasonable estimate of polyethylene injection pressure was obtained by roughly accounting for latent heat of crystallization through modified thermal diffusivity.

General Economic Order Quantity Model for Lot Sizing with Quality Loss and Process Analysis

In this paper a new model GEOQ is proposed to decide the optimal lot sizing in production. The GEOQ modifies the classical EOQ method in several aspects. First it considers that there is always a probability that the production goes out-of-control; then it takes the time the process goes out-of-control as a stochastic quantity; and finally it adds quality loss to the economic models. The quality loss is calculated according to Taguchi’s quadratic loss function. and depends on the process failure models. Therefore, the optimal lot sizing is decided not only by the set-up cost and the holding cost but also by the quality loss during the manufacturing process.

Quantity Estimation Based on Numerical Cues in the Mealworm Beetle (Tenebrio molitor)

In this study, we used a biologically relevant experimental procedure to ask whether mealworm beetles (Tenebrio molitor) are spontaneously capable of assessing quantities based on numerical cues. Like other insect species, mealworm beetles adjust their reproductive behavior (i.e., investment in mate guarding) according to the perceived risk of sperm competition (i.e., probability that a female will mate with another male). Polyelectrolyte Electrophoresis in Nanochannels: A Dissipative Particle Dynamics Simulation

We present mesoscopic DPD-simulations of polyelectrolyte electrophoresis in confined nanogeometries, for varying salt concentration and surface slip conditions. Special attention is given to the influence of electroosmotic flow (EOF) on the migration of the polyelectrolyte. The effective polyelectrolyte mobility is found to depend strongly on the boundary properties, i.e., the slip length and the width of the electric double layer. Analytic expressions for the electroosmotic mobility and the total mobility are derived which are in good agreement with the numerical results. This paper integrates investment and production decisions in a dynamic model of a competitive industry where producers, facing a technology involving fixed input–output coefficients, employ quantity adjustment rules. Whether complex dynamic price behaviour is consistent with producers breaking-even over time is explored. The proportion of costs which are sunk through investment is shown to have a potentially dramatic impact on the price dynamics. The existence of single-wall carbon nanotubes in organic solvents in the form of clusters is discussed. A theory is developed based on a bundlet model, which enables describing the cluster-size distribution function. Comparison of calculated solubilities with experiments would permit obtaining energetic parameters, characterizing the interaction of a nanotube with its surrounding. Change in structure between the $I = 1/2$ states in $^{181}$Tl and $^{177,179}$Au

Abstract The first accurate measurements of the α-decay branching ratio and half-life of the I π = 1 / 2 + ground state in 181Tl have been made, along with the first determination of the magnetic moments and I = 1 / 2 spin assignments of the ground states in 177,179Au. The results are discussed within the complementary systematics of the reduced α-decay widths and nuclear g factors of low-lying, I π = 1 / 2 + states in the neutron-deficient lead region. Precise measurement of the K±→π±e+e− decay

Abstract A sample of 7253 K ± → π ± e + e − ( γ ) decay candidates with 1.0% background contamination has been collected by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS, which allowed a precise measurement of the decay properties. The branching ratio in the full kinematic range was measured to be BR = ( 3.11 ± 0.12 ) × 10 − 7 , where the uncertainty includes also the model dependence. The shape of the form factor W ( z ) , where z = ( M e e / M K ) 2 , was parameterized according to several models, and, in particular, the slope δ of the linear form factor W ( z ) = W 0 ( 1 + δ z ) was determined to be δ = 2.32 ± 0.18 .
