Nucleon electromagnetic form factors in two-flavor QCD

2015

We present results for the nucleon electromagnetic form factors, including the momentum transfer dependence and derived quantities (charge radii and magnetic moment). The analysis is performed using O(a) improved Wilson fermions in Nf=2 QCD measured on the CLS ensembles. Particular focus is placed on a systematic evaluation of the influence of excited states in three-point correlation functions, which lead to a biased evaluation, if not accounted for correctly. We argue that the use of summed operator insertions and fit ans\"atze including excited states allow us to suppress and control this effect. We employ a novel method to perform joint chiral and continuum extrapolations, by fitting th…

Meson dominance of hadron form factors and large-Ncphenomenology

2012

We discuss the pion and nucleon form factors and generalized form factors within the large-Nc approach in the space-like region. We estimate their theoretical uncertainties through the use of the half-width rule, amounting to taking the half-width of the resonances as the deviation of their mass parameters. The approach embodies the meson dominance of form factors and the high-energy constraints from perturbative QCD. We compare the results with the available experimental data and lattice simulations. The meson-dominance form factors are generally comparable to the available experimental data within the half-width-rule uncertainties. Our errors are comparable to the experimental uncertainti…

The half-skyrmion phase in a chiral-quark model

2013

The Chiral Dilaton Model, where baryons arise as non-topological solitons built from the interaction of quarks and chiral mesons, shows in the high density low temperature regime a two phase scenario in the nuclear matter phase diagram. Dense soliton matter described by the Wigner–Seitz approximation generates a periodic potential in terms of the sigma and pion fields that leads to the formation of a band structure. The analysis up to three times nuclear matter density shows that soliton matter undergoes two separate phase transitions: a delocalization of the baryon number density leading to B=1/2B=1/2 structures, as in skyrmion matter, at moderate densities, and quark deconfinement at larg…

The pion quasiparticle in the low-temperature phase of QCD

2015

We investigate the properties of the pion quasiparticle in the low-temperature phase of two-flavor QCD on the lattice with support from chiral effective theory. We find that the pion quasiparticle mass is significantly reduced compared to its value in the vacuum, by contrast with the static screening mass, which increases with temperature. By a simple argument, near the chiral limit the two masses are expected to determine the quasiparticle dispersion relation. Analyzing two-point functions of the axial charge density at non-vanishing spatial momentum, we find that the predicted dispersion relation and the residue of the pion pole are simultaneously consistent with the lattice data at low m…

Measurement of the photon+b-jet production differential cross section in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV

2012

We present measurements of the differential cross section d sigma/dp(T)(gamma) for the inclusive production of a photon in association with a b-quark jet for photons with rapidities vertical bar y(gamma)vertical bar 15 GeV and rapidity vertical bar Y-jet vertical bar ) Collider at root s = 1.96 TeV. The measured cross sections are compared with next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations using different sets of parton distribution functions as well as to predictions based on the k(T)-factorization QCD approach, and those from the SHERPA and PYTHIA Monte Carlo event generators.

Measurement of the differential cross sections for isolated direct photon pair production in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV

2013

We present measurements of direct photon pair production cross sections using 8.5 fb(-1) of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p (p) over bar collider. The results are presented as differential distributions of the photon pair invariant mass d sigma/dM(gamma gamma), pair transverse momentum d sigma/dp(T)(gamma gamma) azimuthal angle between the photons d sigma/d Delta(phi)(gamma gamma), and polar scattering angle in the Collins-Soper frame d sigma/d vertical bar cos theta*vertical bar. Measurements are performed for isolated photons with transverse momenta p(T)(gamma) > 18 (17) GeV for the leading (next-to-leading) photon in P-T, pseudorapidities vertical bar eta(g…

A relation between screening masses and real-time rates

2014

Thermal screening masses related to the conserved vector current are determined for the case that the current carries a non-zero Matsubara frequency, both in a weak-coupling approach and through lattice QCD. We point out that such screening masses are sensitive to the same infrared physics as light-cone real-time rates. In particular, on the perturbative side, the inhomogeneous Schrodinger equation determining screening correlators is shown to have the same general form as the equation implementing LPM resummation for the soft-dilepton and photon production rates from a hot QCD plasma. The static potential appearing in the equation is identical to that whose soft part has been determined up…
