EPS09s and EKS98s: Impact parameter dependent nPDF sets

In our recent study we have determined two new spatially dependent nuclear PDF (nPDF) sets, EPS09s and EKS98s. With these, the hard-process cross-sections can be calculated in different centrality classes consistently with the globally analyzed nPDFs for the first time. The sets were determined by exploiting the $A$-systematics of the globally fitted nPDF sets, EPS09 and EKS98. For the spatial dependence of the nPDFs we used a power series ansatz in the nuclear thickness function $T_A$. Strong magnetic fields in a nonlocal Polyakov chiral quark model

2018

We study the behavior of strongly interacting matter under an external constant magnetic field in the context of nonlocal chiral quark models that incorporate a coupling to the Polyakov loop. We find that at zero temperature the behavior of the quark condensates shows the expected magnetic catalysis effect, our predictions being in good quantitative agreement with lattice QCD results. On the other hand when the analysis is extended to the case of finite temperature our results show that nonlocal models naturally lead to the Inverse Magnetic Catalysis effect for both the chiral restoration and deconfinement transition temperatures.

Abstract The value of the b quark mass at the M Z scale defined in the MS renormalization scheme, m b ( M Z ), was determined using 2.8 million hadronic Z decays collected during 1992-1994 by the DELPHI detector to be m b (M Z )=2.67±0.25 ( stat. )±0.34 ( frag. )±0.27 ( theo. ) GeV/c 2 . The analysis considers NLO corrections to the three-jet production rate including mass effects, and the result obtained agrees with the QCD prediction of having a running b quark mass at an energy scale equal to M Z . QCD Condensates for the Light Quark V-A Correlator

We use the procedure of pinched-weight Finite Energy Sum Rules (pFESR) to determine the OPE coefficients a_6, ...,a_16 of the flavor ud V-A correlator in terms of existing hadronic tau decay data. We show by appropriate weight choices that the error on the dominant d=6 contribution, which is known to be related to the K -> Pi Pi matrix elements of the electroweak penguin operator in the chiral limit, may be reduced to below the ~15% level. The values we obtain for the OPE coefficients with d>8 are shown to naturally account for the discrepancies between our results for the d=6 and d=8 terms and those of previous analyses, which were obtained neglecting d>8 contributions.

Production of charged pions, kaons, and protons ine+e−annihilations into hadrons ats=10.54  GeV

Inclusive production cross sections of π^±, K^± and p/p per hadronic e^+e^- annihilation event are measured at a center-of-mass energy of 10.54 GeV, using a relatively small sample of very high quality data from the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II B-factory at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. The drift chamber and Cherenkov detector provide clean samples of identified π^±, K^±, and p/p over a wide range of momenta. Since the center-of-mass energy is below the threshold to produce a BB pair, with B a bottom-quark meson, these data represent a pure e^+e^-→qq sample with four quark flavors, and are used to test QCD predictions and hadronization models. Heavy quark pair production in gluon fusion at next-to-next-to-leadingO(αs4)order: One-loop squared contributions

We calculate the next-to-next-to-leading-order $\mathcal{O}({\ensuremath{\alpha}}_{s}^{4})$ one-loop squared corrections to the production of heavy-quark pairs in the gluon-gluon fusion process. Together with the previously derived results on the $q\overline{q}$ production channel, the results of this paper complete the calculation of the one-loop squared contributions of the next-to-next-to-leading-order $\mathcal{O}({\ensuremath{\alpha}}_{s}^{4})$ radiative QCD corrections to the hadroproduction of heavy flavors. Our results, with the full mass dependence retained, are presented in a closed and very compact form, in dimensional regularization.

A first test of the framed standard model against experiment

The framed standard model (FSM) is obtained from the standard model by incorporating, as field variables, the frame vectors (vielbeins) in internal symmetry space. It gives the standard Higgs boson and 3 generations of quarks and leptons as immediate consequences. It gives moreover a fermion mass matrix of the form: $m = m_T \alpha \alpha^\dagger$, where $\alpha$ is a vector in generation space independent of the fermion species and rotating with changing scale, which has already been shown to lead, generically, to up-down mixing, neutrino oscillations and mass hierarchy. Charge asymmetry of heavy quarks at hadron colliders

A sizeable difference in the differential production cross section of top and antitop quarks, respectively, is predicted for hadronically produced heavy quarks. It is of order $\alpha_s$ and arises from the interference between charge odd and even amplitudes respectively. For the TEVATRON it amounts up to 15\% for the differential distribution in suitable chosen kinematical regions. The resulting integrated forward-backward asymmetry of 4--5\% could be measured in the next round of experiments. At the LHC the asymmetry can be studied by selecting appropriately chosen kinematical regions. Geometric approacch to condensates in halographic QCD

An SU(Nf)xSU(Nf) Yang-Mills theory on an extra-dimensional interval is considered, with appropriate symmetry-breaking boundary conditions on the IR brane. UV-brane to UV-brane correlators at high energies are compared with the OPE of two-point functions of QCD quark currents. Condensates correspond to departure from AdS of the (different) metrics felt by vector and axial combinations, away from the UV brane. Their effect on hadronic observables is studied: the extracted condensates agree with the signs and orders of magnitude expected from QCD.
