Giant Quantum Oscillators from Rydberg Atoms: Atomic Coherent States and Their Squeezing from Rydberg Atoms

1989

This paper summarises work since about 1979 by all the authors indicated: RKB is given prominence only because he bears the responsibility for the present paper. All the work has proved relevant to Rydberg atoms. Here we lay particular stress on recent results for squeezing by Rydberg atoms.

Decoherence of the Exciton and Decay of the Excitonic Polaron in Quantum Dots

2005

Bulk-phonon mechanisms of decoherence of an exciton confined in a quantum dot (QD) are considered in order to establish time limitations for the coherent control of the exciton with relevance to its application in quantum information processing. These are the formation and decay of the excitonic polaron. The estimations of characteristic dephasing times for the InAs/GaAs QD are discussed.

Quantum Dynamics of Strongly Interacting Boson Systems: Atomic Beam Splitters and Coupled Bose-Einstein Condensates

2001

An effective boson Hamiltonian applicable to atomic beam splitters, coupled Bose-Einstein condensates, and optical lattices can be made exactly solvable by including all $n$-body interactions. The model can include an arbitrary number of boson components. In the strong interaction limit the model becomes a quantum phase model, which also describes a tight-binding lattice particle. Through exact results for dynamic correlation functions, it is shown how the previous weak interaction dynamics of these systems are extended to strong interactions, now becoming relevant in the experiments. The effect of the number of boson components is also analyzed.

The State of a Quantum System as a Subsystem of a Composite System

2020

The notion of state in quantum systems is analized, a non-probabilistic definition of state provided, the Zurek’s concept of envariance is mathematically formulated, and the characterization of a state through its properties is discussed.

Asymptotic entanglement of two atoms in a squeezed light field

2011

The dynamics of entanglement between two - level atoms interacting with a common squeezed reservoir is investigated. It is shown that for spatially separated atoms there is a unique asymptotic state depending on the distance between the atoms and the atom - photons detuning. In the regime of strong correlations there is a one - parameter family of asymptotic steady - states depending on initial conditions. In contrast to the thermal reservoir both types of asymptotic states can be entangled. We calculate the amount of entanglement in the system in terms of concurrence.

Magnetic quantum criticality in quasi-one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet Cu (C4H4N2)( NO 3)2

2016

We analyze exciting recent measurements [Phys. Rev. Lett. 114 (2015) 037202] of the magnetization, differential susceptibility and specific heat on one dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet Cu(C4H4N2)(NO3)2 (CuPzN) subjected to strong magnetic fields. Using the mapping between magnons (bosons) in CuPzN and fermions, we demonstrate that magnetic field tunes the insulator towards quantum critical point related to so-called fermion condensation quantum phase transition (FCQPT) at which the resulting fermion effective mass diverges kinematically. We show that the FCQPT concept permits to reveal the scaling behavior of thermodynamic characteristics, describe the experimental results quantitativ…

Orbital-selective Mott transitions in two-band Hubbard models

2006

The anisotropic two-orbital Hubbard model is investigated at low temperatures using high-precision quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations within dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). We demonstrate that two distinct orbital-selective Mott transitions (OSMTs) occur for a bandwidth ratio of 2 even without spin-flip contributions to the Hund exchange, and we quantify numerical errors in earlier QMC data which had obscured the second transition. The limit of small inter-orbital coupling is introduced via a new generalized Hamiltonian and studied using QMC and Potthoff's self-energy functional method, yielding insight into the nature of the OSMTs and the non-Fermi-liquid OSM phase and opening the p…

2-qubit quantum state transfer in spin chains and cold atoms with weak links

2017

In this paper we discuss the implementation of 2-qubit quantum state transfer (QST) in inhomogeneous spin chains where the sender and the receiver blocks are coupled through the bulk channel via weak links. The fidelity and the typical timescale of the QST are discussed as a function of the parameters of the weak links. Given the possibility of implementing with cold atoms in optical lattices a variety of condensed matter systems, including spin systems, we also discuss the possible implementation of the discussed 2-qubit QST with cold gases with weak links, together with a discussion of the applications and limitations of the presented results.

Jaynes-Cummings model with atomic position distribution

1995

The position as well as the width of the atomic wave packet passing through an optical cavity may affect the matter-field interaction. As a result, the internal dynamics of a two-level atom, such as the Rabi oscillations or the collapse and revival phenomenon, may be strongly modified with respect to the standard Jaynes-Cummings model. In particular, for a sufficiently large spread of the atomic position, the atomic population inversion displays the characteristic ringing behavior of the Bessel function ${\mathit{J}}_{0}$ differently from the usual full Rabi oscillation.
