Measurement of branching fractions and charge asymmetries for exclusive B decays to charmonium
2005
We report measurements of branching fractions and charge asymmetries of exclusive decays of neutral and charged B mesons into two-body final states containing a charmonium state and a light strange meson. The charmonium mesons considered are J/Psi, Psi(2S) and Chi_c1, and the light meson is either K or K*. We use a sample of about 124 million BBbar events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.
Seaborgium's complex studies
2015
Christoph E. Dullmann reflects on the excitement, and implications, of probing the reactivity of heavy element seaborgium.
Embedding Quantum into Classical: Contextualization vs Conditionalization
2014
We compare two approaches to embedding joint distributions of random variables recorded under different conditions (such as spins of entangled particles for different settings) into the framework of classical, Kolmogorovian probability theory. In the contextualization approach each random variable is "automatically" labeled by all conditions under which it is recorded, and the random variables across a set of mutually exclusive conditions are probabilistically coupled (imposed a joint distribution upon). Analysis of all possible probabilistic couplings for a given set of random variables allows one to characterize various relations between their separate distributions (such as Bell-type ine…
Instability of Equilibrium States for Coupled Heat Reservoirs at Different Temperatures
2007
Abstract We consider quantum systems consisting of a “small” system coupled to two reservoirs (called open systems). We show that such systems have no equilibrium states normal with respect to any state of the decoupled system in which the reservoirs are at different temperatures, provided that either the temperatures or the temperature difference divided by the product of the temperatures are not too small. Our proof involves an elaborate spectral analysis of a general class of generators of the dynamics of open quantum systems, including quantum Liouville operators (“positive temperature Hamiltonians”) which generate the dynamics of the systems under consideration.
Measurement of quantum states of neutrons in the Earth's gravitational field
2003
The lowest stationary quantum state of neutrons in the Earth's gravitational field is identified in the measurement of neutron transmission between a horizontal mirror on the bottom and an absorber/scatterer on top. Such an assembly is not transparent for neutrons if the absorber height is smaller than the ``height'' of the lowest quantum state.
Search for neutral Higgs bosons decaying into four taus at LEP2
2010
A search for the production and non-standard decay of a Higgs boson, h, into four taus through intermediate pseudoscalars, a, is conducted on 683 pb-1 of data collected by the ALEPH experiment at centre-of-mass energies from 183 to 209 GeV. No excess of events above background is observed, and exclusion limits are placed on the combined production cross section times branching ratio, β2 = σ(e+e -→Zh)/σSM(e+e-→Zh) ×B(h→aa)×B(a→τ+τ-) 2. For mh 1 is excluded at the 95% confidence level.
Molecular and electronic structure of square-planar nickel(ii), nickel(iii) and nickel(iii)π-cation radical complexes with a tetradentate o-phenylene…
2005
The molecular and electronic structures of the electron transfer series of four-coordinate square-planar nickel complexes with the ligand o-phenylenebis(N'-methyloxamidate), [NiL]z (z = 2-, 1-, 0), have been evaluated by DFT and TDDFT calculations, and most of their experimentally available structural and spectroscopic properties (X. Ottenwaelder et al., Dalton Trans., 2005, DOI: 10.1039/b502478a) have been reasonably reproduced at the B3LYP level of theory. The anionic species [NiL]2- and [NiL]- are genuine low-spin nickel II and nickel III complexes with diamagnetic singlet (S = 0) and paramagnetic doublet (S = 1/2) states, respectively. The nickel III complex presents shorter Ni-N(amidat…
Physics with the KLOE-2 experiment at the upgraded DAFNE
2010
Investigation at a $\phi$--factory can shed light on several debated issues in particle physics. We discuss: i) recent theoretical development and experimental progress in kaon physics relevant for the Standard Model tests in the flavor sector, ii) the sensitivity we can reach in probing CPT and Quantum Mechanics from time evolution of entangled kaon states, iii) the interest for improving on the present measurements of non-leptonic and radiative decays of kaons and eta/eta$^\prime$ mesons, iv) the contribution to understand the nature of light scalar mesons, and v) the opportunity to search for narrow di-lepton resonances suggested by recent models proposing a hidden dark-matter sector. We…

Mössbauer thermal scan study of a spin crossover system
2010
Programmable Velocity equipment was used to perform a Mössbauer Thermal Scans to allow a quasi-continuous temperature study of the magnetic transition between the low-spin and a high-spin configurations in [Fe(Htrz)2(trz)](BF4) system. The material was studied both in bulk as in nanoparticles sample forms.
