‘Neither male or female, just Falete’: Resistance and queerness on Spanish TV screens

Spanish copla singer Falete is best known for his frequent presence on TV shows, which receive record ratings, and also for the jokes made regarding his appearance. Confronted with normative questions regarding gender and sexuality, Falete’s successful TV career challenges not only binary conceptions of gender but also how we think about TV spectatorship. We argue that liminal spaces, such as the one that Falete inhabits on TV, are useful for unveiling how audiences develop plural and complex forms of identifying with TV stars. Resumen En nuestro corpus, conformado por obras literarias y cinematograficas, los cuerpos monstruosos del ciborg y del androgino devienen seres fronterizos que cuestionan los parametros de sexo, genero y deseo. Lo humano es puesto en duda y lo invisible se vuelve visible, abriendo un amplio espectro en la naturaleza. “My Lies and Liaisons with Marilyn” : An Autofictional Representation of the Downtown Man, a Finnish Successor to the Marlboro Man in the Early 1990s

In this autobiographical/autofictional article, I analyze the representation of masculinity, an advertising poster for a new Finnish cigarette brand from the 1990s recession, when a new man, a “softie,” debuted under the pressure of the traditional male model and the twenty-first-century dudes and lads. The model posing in the poster is a homosexual, me. In the article I ask whether a gay could represent a Finnish man in the early 1990s or only present him. I examine the picture with a queer eye in search of inconsistencies and distortions that break present alternative interpretations to heteronormativity.

Tämä kandidaatintutkielma käsittelee seksuaalisten vähemmistöjen syrjintää ja nettikiusaamisen esiintymistä internet-faniyhteisöissä. Edelliset tutkimukset kertovat nettikiusaamisen olevan haitallista ja vaikuttavan uhrien mielenterveyteen – usein jopa enemmän kuin kasvotusten tapahtuva kiusaaminen. Tutkielmaa varten tehty nettikysely suunnattiin “femslash”-faniryhmille.
