Triazolopyridyl ketones as a novel class of antileishmanial agents. DNA binding and BSA interaction

A new series of triazolopyridyl pyridyl ketones has been synthetized by regioselective lithiation of the corresponding [1,2,3]triazolo[1,5-a]pyridine at 7 position followed by reaction with different electrophiles. The in vitro antileishmanial activity of these compounds was evaluated against Leishmaniainfantum, Leishmaniabraziliensis, Leishmaniaguyanensis and Leishmaniaamazonensis. Compounds 6 and 7 were found to be the most active leishmanicidal agents. Both of them showed activities at micromolar concentration against cultured promastigotes of Leishmania spp. (IC₅₀=99.8-26.8 μM), without cytotoxicity on J774 macrophage cells. Watermelon (Citrillus lanants) plants were grown for two consecutive years in open-top chambers with three different ozone concentrations (O-3-free air, O-3 ambient, and air with additional O-3; CFA, NFA, and NFA+O-3) and three nitrogen fertilizer concentrations [0, 14.0, and 29.6 g N per pot; N0, N1, and N2). There was an interaction between ozone and N fertilizer for the major parameters studied. AbstractMeasurements of modulated chlorophyll a fluorescence emission and chlorophyll content were made in thalli of Parmelia quercina collected from northern Castellon(Spain). Althoug high air pollution concentrations have been measured in this area, the ratio of variable to maximal fluorescence is unaffected. Following dark-adaptation, the response to irradiance of chlorophyll fluorescence was examined. With respect to control samples, thalli collected in northern Castellon consistently showed differences in fluorescence quenching, the efficiency of excitation energy capture and quenching of basal fluorescence. The fast and slow reversible components of non-photochemical chlorophyll fluorescence quenching commonly assigned to the qE and the qI mechanism have been studied in isolated pea thylakoids which were prepared from leaves after a moderate photoinhibitory treatment. Chlorophyll fluorescence decays were measured at picosecond resolution and analyzed on the basis of the heterogeneous exciton/radical pair equilibrium model. The interaction of native DNA with Zn(II) and Cu(II) complexes of 5-triethyl ammonium methyl salicylidene orto-phenylendiimine

The interaction of native calf thymus DNA with the Zn(II) and Cu(II) complexes of 5-triethyl ammonium methyl salicylidene orto-phenylendiimine (ZnL(2+) and CuL(2+)), in 1 mM Tris-HCl aqueous solutions at neutral pH, has been monitored as a function of the metal complex-DNA molar ratio by UV absorption spectrophotometry, circular dichroism (CD) and fluorescence spectroscopy. The results support for an intercalative interaction of both ZnL(2+) and CuL(2+) with DNA, showing CuL(2+) an affinity of approximately 10 times higher than ZnL(2+). Fluorescence Decay Time of Single Semiconductor Nanocrystals

We present fluorescence decay measurements of single ZnS covered CdSe nanocrystals. It is shown that the fluorescence decay time is fluctuating during the investigation leading to a multiexponential decay even for a single nanocrystal. In combination with measurements of the fluorescence blinking behavior we find that a high fluorescence intensity is correlated with a long fluorescence decay time. This is consistent with a model of fluctuating nonradiative decay channels leading to variable dynamic quenching processes of the excited state.

Environment assisted photoconversion of luminescent surface defects in SiO 2 nanoparticles

Abstract Time-resolved photoluminescence investigation on SiO 2 nanoparticles was carried out in controlled atmosphere, with the aim to discern the effects induced on the typical blue luminescence band by high power UV Nd:YAG laser photons (4.66 eV) and by some selected molecular species of the air (O 2 , N 2 , CO 2 , H 2 O). Anthrylmethylamine functionalised mesoporous silica-based materials as hybrid fluorescent chemosensors for ATP

A number of functionalised mesoporous solids containing anchored anthrylmethylamine groups have been prepared using different co-hydrolysis or grafting synthetic routes. The solids have been characterised using standard solid-state techniques. Solids with a low loading of the anthrylmethylamine probe show typical well defined and structured emission bands centred at ca. 415 nm. Addition of ATP to suspensions of these solids at pH 2.8 resulted in a quenching of the anthracene emission. First principles simulation of amorphous InSb

Ab initio molecular dynamics simulations based on density functional theory have been performed to generate a model of amorphous InSb by quenching from the melt. The resulting network is mostly tetrahedral with a minor fraction ($10%$) of atoms in a fivefold coordination. The structural properties are in good agreement with available x-ray diffraction and extended x-ray-absorption fine structure data and confirm the proposed presence of a sizable fraction of homopolar In-In and Sb-Sb bonds whose concentration in our model amounts to about $20%$ of the total number of bonds.

The continuous cooling transformation (CCT) as a flexible tool to investigate polymer crystallization under processing conditions

An experimental route for investigating polymer crystallization over a wide range of cooling rates (from 0.01 to 1000◦C/s) and pressures (from 0.1 to 40 MPa) is illustrated, using a method that recalls the approach adopted in metallurgy for studying structure development in metals.
