P-78D-PENICILLAMINE PREVENTS THE ALCOHOL DEPRIVATION EFFECT IN THE OPERANT SELF-AMINISTRATION PARADIGM
2015
Although pharmacological treatments for relapse prevention have experienced some progress, their general effectiveness can be considered low and the problem could not be considered solved. In recent years, our group has explored the use of acetaldehyde (ACD) sequestering agents as a new and very promising strategy. These agents, such as …
A CORBA based architecture for distributed embedded systems using the RTLinux-GPL platform
2004
This paper describes an architecture for distributed computing on the RTLinux-GPL(GPL version of RTLinux, hereafter RTLinux) platform. The proposed architecture implements the CORBA (common object request broker architecture) model of computation, more specifically the minimum CORBA specification for embedded systems, and also provide the extensions for real-time computing. Since RTLinux lacks networking capabilities, the architecture implements all the required functionality in a layered fashion: network drivers, TCP/IP stack and an ORB (object request broker). Most of this work consists on a set of partings of some widely known open source Linux projects to RTLinux: Linux Ethernet device …

Design of the EBE-ST Questionnaire among Nursing Students: Multicenter Study from Eight Universities in Spain
2021
Background: Twenty years after the degree in nursing was introduced in Spain, the subject of evidence-based nursing is still unstructured and unestablished in most faculties. Moreover, there are hardly any rigorous studies at a national level that evaluate the current state of this competence in our faculties. Understanding the starting point is essential for the curricular design to ensure that evidence-based practice is implemented among future professionals. Aim: To design and validate an evidence-based nursing competency questionnaire for fourth-year nursing students. Methods: A specific questionnaire was developed and validated (EBE-ST). A cross-sectional survey design with psychometri…
A Review of Bias Research in Auditing: Opportunities for Integrating Experimental Psychology and Experimental Economics
2009
The objective of this paper is to show opportunities for integrating psychological and economics research in auditing. For this purpose, auditing research that employs both the methodologies of experimental psychology and experimental economics is collectively reviewed. The review is structured along three fundamental research questions: (1) Are auditors prone to biases; (2) what are the consequences of biased judgment in auditing; and (3) do features of the audit environment interact with the biased judgment? While both the research approach of experimental psychology and experimental economics are employed for addressing these resesarch questions, both approaches differ in their focus and…
Long-term organic farming on a citrus plantation results in soil organic carbon recovery
2019
Urology Residency Training in Italy: Results of the First National Survey
2018
Background: Numerous surveys have been performed to determine the competence and the confidence of residents. However, there is no data available on the condition of Italian residents in urology. Objective: To investigate the status of training among Italian residents in urology regarding scientific activity and surgical exposure. Design, setting, and participants: A web-based survey that included 445 residents from all of the 25 Italian Residency Programmes was conducted between September 2015 and November 2015. Outcome measurements and statistical analysis: The main outcomes were represented by scientific activity, involvement in surgical procedures, and overall satisfaction. Results and …
Collaborative Governance and Emergency Management: A Case Study of Latvia
2016
Emergencies – crises, disasters and catastrophes – cannot be managed by individuals or one organization, collaborative actions are needed In the context of this paper, a two-part research on collaborative governance and emergency management in Latvia has been carried out. This research is important because due to extreme weather conditions even “safe” countries should be able to deal with frequently recorded emergencies. It also contributes to the literature on emergency management in the context of Europe. The method of a case study was employed for this qualitative research seeking to clarify the situation and provide answers to the research question. The research showed that much attentio…
Structured query construction via knowledge graph embedding
2020
In order to facilitate the accesses of general users to knowledge graphs, an increasing effort is being exerted to construct graph-structured queries of given natural language questions. At the core of the construction is to deduce the structure of the target query and determine the vertices/edges which constitute the query. Existing query construction methods rely on question understanding and conventional graph-based algorithms which lead to inefficient and degraded performances facing complex natural language questions over knowledge graphs with large scales. In this paper, we focus on this problem and propose a novel framework standing on recent knowledge graph embedding techniques. Our…
Personal protective equipment and intensive care unit healthcare worker safety in the COVID-19 era (PPE-SAFE): An international survey
2020
Purpose To survey healthcare workers (HCW) on availability and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) caring for COVID-19 patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Materials and method A web-based survey distributed worldwide in April 2020. Results We received 2711 responses from 1797 (67%) physicians, 744 (27%) nurses, and 170 (6%) Allied HCW. For routine care, most (1557, 58%) reportedly used FFP2/N95 masks, waterproof long sleeve gowns (1623; 67%), and face shields/visors (1574; 62%). Powered Air-Purifying Respirators were used routinely and for intubation only by 184 (7%) and 254 (13%) respondents, respectively. Surgical masks were used for routine care by 289 (15%) and 47 (2%) for…
