In the present paper, a simplified model is used to determine the axial load-carrying capacity of compressed short reinforced concrete columns subjected to corrosion processes. The model considers members with circular and square cross-sections and accounts for—cover spalling, —concrete core confinement induced by transverse steel reinforcement, —buckling of longitudinal reinforcing bars. AbstractThermo-rheological characteristics of unmodified and modified bitumen have significant impacts on the mechanical response of asphalt. This study investigates the impacts of an organic and a chemical Warm Mix Asphalt additive on bitumen thermo-rheological and mechanical characteristics. Some properties of lightweight pumice stone concrete (LWPSC) are discussed, on account of a possible structural use of this material. International audience; Cracking and spalling are known to occur during the oxidation of UO2. However, these phenomena are not considered by the existing kinetic models of the oxidation of UO2 into U3O8. In this study the oxidation of UO2 samples of various sizes from the single crystal to nanopowders, has been followed by isothermal and isobaric thermogravimetry, environmental scanning electron microscopy and in situ X-ray diffraction at temperatures ranging from 250 to 370°C in air. In this work, cytotoxicity and cellular impedance response was compared for CdSe/ZnS core/shell quantum dots (QDs) with positively charged cysteamine–QDs, negatively charged dihydrolipoic acid–QDs and zwitterionic D-penicillamine–QDs exposed to canine kidney MDCKII cells. Pretreatment of cells with pharmacological inhibitors suggested that the uptake of nanoparticles was largely due to receptor-independent pathways or spontaneous entry for carboxylated and zwitterionic QDs, while for amine-functionalized particles involvement of cholesterol-enriched membrane domains is conceivable. In this work, two blends were sprayed to lead to coatings with different mechanical properties, which corresponded to either a fine or a coarse microstructure. These coatings were studied using SEM and X-ray microtomography (XMT) to determine the best coating quality through characterization of particle-to-particle bonding. The framework is aimed at reducing the computational cost of polycrystalline micro simulations, with an aim towards effective multiscale modelling.
