Pillararene-based fluorescent sensors for the tracking of organic compounds

Abstract Fluorescent chemosensors based on pillararene complexes represent a new, promising branch in sensor technology. Because of CH⋅⋅⋅π interactions, aliphatic chains are well suited for the columnar cavities of pillararenes and bulky or sheet-like (sub)structures can be arranged on the portals. Thus, pillararenes form versatile receptors and an alteration of the fluorescence behavior upon complexation ensures the function of these chemosensors as the reporter. Although this field of research exists only since a few years, remarkable chemosensors were developed for substances as diverse as medical drugs, biochemicals, herbicides and explosives.

SiPMs coated with TPB: coating protocol and characterization for NEXT

[EN] Silicon photomultipliers (SiPM) are the photon detectors chosen for the tracking readout in NEXT, a neutrinoless \bb decay experiment which uses a high pressure gaseous xenon time projection chamber (TPC). The reconstruction of event track and topology in this gaseous detector is a key handle for background rejection. Among the commercially available sensors that can be used for tracking, SiPMs offer important advantages, mainly high gain, ruggedness, cost-effectiveness and radio-purity. Their main drawback, however, is their non sensitivity in the emission spectrum of the xenon scintillation (peak at 175 nm). Progressive cracking mastercurves of the transverse ply in a laminate

In this study, progressive cracking of a transverse layer in a cross-ply composite laminate subjected to tensile loading is considered. Using the results of a probabilistic cracking model, approximate relations for crack density as a function of stress are derived for initiation-controlled and propagation-controlled cracking. It is shown that the crack density evolution in the transverse ply can be represented by a mastercurve in suitably normalized coordinates. Coating fragmentation by branching cracks at large biaxial strain

2007

The fragmentation behaviour of a thin brittle coating attached to a ductile substrate subjected to equibiaxial quasi-static in-plane tension is studied. The experimentally observed cracking patterns are related to repetitively branching coating cracks. The fragmentation process is modelled by the rate equation approach. It is established that fragmentation by branching cracks leads to a qualitatively different fragment distribution compared to binary fragmentation. The fragmentation model is applied to identify crack branching and coating/substrate stress transfer parameters.

Basalt polymers are rather new materials for civil engineering; therefore, identification of peculiarities and limitations of application of such polymers in concrete structures (particularly bridges) is of vital importance. Engineering failure analysis of corroded R.C. beams in flexure and shear

Abstract In the present paper, a simple model to reproduce the load-deflection response of corroded beams failing in flexure and shear is presented and discussed. Increasing the stability of the Ge-containing extra-large pore ITQ-33 zeolite by post-synthetic acid treatments

[EN] Extra-large pore ITQ-33 zeolite (ITT, 18 x 10 x 10-rings) is a very promising catalyst for the catalytic cracking of gasoil but, unfortunately, this material shows a limited hydrothermal stability due to the large germanium content present in the ITQ-33 structure. Taking this into account, the Ge-containing ITQ-33 has been post synthetically modified using different acid procedures with the aim of studying the effect of these treatments on the overall hydrothermal stability of this extra-large pore zeolite.
